Buxa Farm Chalets are a great central base for exploring the range of amazing historical sites like Maes Howe chambered tomb, complete with Viking graffiti, the Ring of Brodgar standing stones and stunning Broch of Gurness.

A trip to Orkney must include a trip to the incredible Skara Brae prehistoric village, the best example of its type in Europe. It also boasts a fantastic visitor centre and a nice wee café. The local cheese platter is highly recommended.

Head south over the Churchill Barriers and visit the Italian chapel made by Italian POWs during wwii and then visit the incredible Tomb of the Eagles.

Go for a wander around Kirkwall town: see the magnificent St Magnus Cathedral and Orkney museum or explore some of the independent shops, cafes and restaurants on the High Street.

Take a trip to the dramatic cliff-top tidal island of Brough of Birsay. This was once the ancient Oradian seat of power. Check the tides to ensure a safe time for crossing!
