Guests say

Kennels Cottage in Melrose is a well-loved property with guests praising its comfort, central location for exploring the Scottish Borders, and the welcoming touches such as homemade scones. While some guests noted areas for improvement, the overall sentiment is that the cottage provides a pleasant and cosy stay.

The majority of guests found the cottage to be clean, with specific compliments on the tidiness and welcoming atmosphere. However, a few reviews mentioned the need for a deeper clean and attention to details like rusty pans and a used sponge, slightly lowering the score.

The location is highly praised for its centrality to local villages, attractions, and the convenience of a nearby pub. The peaceful setting and proximity to touring routes are appreciated, although some noted the parking distance and proximity to a busy road.

Guests generally found the beds comfortable and the cottage cosy, with a few mentioning the warmth and homeliness of the property. However, some reviews cited issues with hard mattresses and sloping ceilings affecting comfort, particularly upstairs.

The cottage is well-equipped with amenities like Wi-Fi and a well-fitted kitchen. Guests appreciated the thoughtful welcome treats. Points were deducted for maintenance issues such as a tricky hot water system, broken dishwasher, and the need for clearer instructions for appliances.

Guests frequently mentioned and appreciated the thoughtful gestures, such as homemade scones, jam, and milk upon arrival. These small touches contributed to the welcoming feel of the cottage, although it is noted that such gifts are a delightful surprise and not guaranteed.

The house was superficial clean. Kitchen cutlery, bathroom, etc. Beds were fine and bedlinnen very clean. The layout of the rooms can be improved, now just (not) enough space for 4 adults. Also the furniture is quit massive and not appropriate for the room. With good layout it is possible to avoid the problem of low ceilings upstairs, which is now even a problem for smaller people.

..only niggle upstairs toilet seat too small for toilet and oven not clean...this would definitely not put me off staying at the Cottage again...wonderful area for visiting the Borders...ate out every day and food was delicious in all eating places we went to...dogs welcome everywhere...bliss.
