About this property

If you’re looking to get away from it all, Anne’s Hut will transport you into total seclusion, amongst the greenery and the tranquillity of the Wye Valley. An idyllic romantic retreat with not one, but two luxurious shepherd's huts cleverly linked together by a decked patio area, and set in a green and totally secluded meadow and on the edge of natural woodland, close to the ancient settlement of Penterry.

With everything you could need, these shepherd’s huts make ingenious use of space while still offering opulence and luxury. With no television to gogglewatch, or WiFi to tempt you into doom-scrolling, you can truly relax and embrace nature's own entertainment of the dawn and dusk chorus, and the hoot of owl.

The main hut provides a comfy, warm and very well-equipped living area, complete with a wood burning stove and leather armchairs; the bijou kitchen finds space for a gas oven and under-counter fridge with ice-box, and the bedroom area showcases a generous super-king size bed. A hop, skip and jump across the decked terrace leads you to the generous dressing and bathroom, where you can choose from a long luxurious soak in the bath, which has been designed for sharing with central taps and a window just at the right height; or step into the walk-in shower for a more invigorating start to the day.

Despite the wonderful provision of indoor comfort and luxury, it is the outdoors that beckon, where you can swing on the hammock drifting off to the surround sound of nature; or snuggle up in a blanket by the fire pit while supper sizzles. More garden furniture can be found on the decked terrace between the two huts. For a spectacular view, wander a short way to a spot just above Anne’s Hut which once housed a Roman Fort, and discover the perfect 360 degree vista featuring seven counties.

The ancient settlement of Penterry sits high on the hill between Chepstow and Tintern, designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, the local area is both beautiful and steeped in history. Chepstow boasts the oldest stone built castle in the land, and Tintern with its majestic Abbey and stunning setting is a must see. For gastronomes, there is a Michelin restaurant just 20 minutes away and there are many other excellent eateries close by. Historians and castle lovers have no less than five castles to choose from within a 20 minute radius; along with Llanthony Priory, which is outstandingly beautiful and just 40 minutes away. Or if you prefer to explore on two wheels, bicycles can be provided for your enjoyment.

Also available to book at this location is Orchard Cottage (sleeping two guests).

Wonderfully equipped Shepard's hut in a beautiful rural location, perfect for a true retreat from the world, we planned to explore the local area, but we enjoyed the peace so much we stayed sitting with the little log fire and a good book watching the squirrels in the woods instead. There is a wealth of information in the local guide left in the hut including laminated maps for walking and cycling. Euan was a wonderful host and looked after us well, leaving a host of goodies for us, and even brought us some delicious sausages to cook on the fire the first night, and helped us out with some petrol before we left! The lanes up were a little dicey, in the dark and rain, I'd recommend approaching from Chepstow side, whilst a bit longer, a much more straightforward journey! Unless you like a long walk, don't walk to the shops, the local one in the village had closed down, and the next one left us with an 8mile round-trip, the bath was certainly very welcome after! We will most certainly be back, and maybe even adventure out next time.

Euan made us feel so welcome when we first arrived and had set the area up beautiful, it was like walking into a fairy tale. Both my husband and I agree that this was the best holiday we have been on. We got the peace and quiet of the countryside with only the owls and robins as neighbours but also the luxury of hot running water, amazing showers, magical bathtub, inside kitchen and an amazing bed. They have really thought of all your needs, comforts and experiences whilst staying with them. The hammock and outside chairs where a dream to have lazy days on with the firepit all prepped for cooking. We felt like we were in our own little world and would have stayed forever. Also the fact that Euan built these huts himself and all the added features to make this stay truly amazing and memorable. Thank you so much for everything, even the fairy who topped up the logs for the fire pit! We will be seeing you again. If there was an option for more Stars you would have given them.
