Cockshead Cottage is praised for its spectacular views and tranquil setting, offering a comfortable stay with a warm welcome from the owner and her dog. While some guests noted areas needing TLC, the charm of the location and the cosiness of the cottage are consistently appreciated. The property is dog-friendly and provides a peaceful retreat with easy access to coastal paths.

The cottage received mixed feedback on cleanliness. Some guests found dog hairs and dust, while others mentioned it met their basic needs. The presence of bugs was noted, but overall, the property was considered clean by several visitors.

The location is highly praised for its stunning views and peacefulness. Access to coastal paths and the natural beauty of the area are major highlights, despite the challenging narrow access roads.

Guests found the beds comfortable and the cottage cosy, although some mentioned the need for better garden furniture and minor updates to enhance comfort.

Facilities are generally adequate, with some guests suggesting improvements in kitchenware and garden furniture. Issues with heating instructions and a lack of hot water were mentioned, indicating room for maintenance.

There is no mention of gifts or special touches that would indicate thoughtfulness from the host, aside from the warm welcome. Therefore, this category cannot be scored.

About this property

Situated high up near Cemaes Head, the highest point on the Pembrokeshire Coast Path and overlooking Cardigan Island, this detached cottage enjoys views across the Teifi Estuary and further out to sea. Dolphins are sometimes seen in the bay but are regular visitors just further north at New Quay, where you can take dolphin spotting boat trips and are seldom disappointed.

The owners have made every effort to ensure that all your needs are catered for, outside is a table and chairs which also takes in the amazing views and catches the sun and indoors everything you need is provided for.

The cottage is situated just under a mile from the Blue Flag beach of Poppit Sands, which is patrolled by lifeguards from May to September and is also a base for the Cardigan RNLI lifeboat and shop. There is also a popular beach café and ice cream kiosk.

Cardigan is some four miles away and the fully restored site of Cardigan Castle is well worth a visit and it boasts a restaurant/café which is recommended. The town itself offers a good selection of shops, restaurants and galleries.

St Dogmaels is an ancient and tranquil village nestling peacefully around its ruined abbey at the mouth of the River Teifi on the totally unspoiled west Wales coast. One of its attractions is Y Felin, one of only two working watermills in Wales and retains the machinery installed in 1820. It is thought the mill was originally built by the monks of St Dogmaels' 12th century Abbey. The miller shows how the mill works and bread, flour and cakes can be purchased from the mill or you can enjoy tea and cakes and light lunches in the Coach House Café nearby. An award winning local produce market is held here every Tuesday and is well worth a visit. The village has a pub, a fish & chip shop, a Post Office, a cafe and a small museum at the abbey. There is also a pretty green and a millpond with ducks. Cardigan, a delightful ancient market town, is just over a mile away. This ancient town sits on the estuary of the River Teifi at the base of Cardigan Bay. Its unspoilt townscape and rich heritage provide a nostalgic backdrop to a thriving culture of arts and crafts, events and music festivals. Nearby is the wonderful Poppit Sands where you can relax on sunny days or enjoy invigorating walks in the cooler months, as well as exploring the beautiful Pembrokeshire Coast Path. St Dogmaels is the start or finish of the 186 mile Pembrokeshire Coast Path from St Dogmaels to Amroth. Visit Castell Henllys, the Iron Age Fort where everyone is encouraged to learn the ancient way of living, or visit the wonderful Shire Horse Farm to see how farming was before tractors. The Cardigan Bay dolphins can be seen off the bay on a regular basis and more active pursuits can be found at Cardigan Bay Active, including surfing, wildlife trips or coasteering. With scenic coastal, riverside and countryside walks and an array of other beaches and attractions all close by, this is a perfect holiday location all year round.

Beautiful views. Brilliant for our dog. The only issue was no WiFi. Maybe felt a little cut off. Wonderful for complete peace and quiet.

The cottage ideal for a couple plus dog. Bedrooms and beds great. Unfortunately no info folder with tele numbers and instructions. Uncontrollable heating, no hot water after 10.30pm. Poor 15" television with broken remote. No hair dryer, dirty towel. Nevertheless the sun shone for the week so we had a great holiday. Some care and attention would make this cottage a wonderful destination.
