Hang your coat in the porch and kick off your boots before stepping into the welcoming, open-plan living space, which has a real farmhouse/country style, with wooden floorboards and a mix of old and new furnishings. At one end, a simple kitchen allows you to cook up delicious treats of all kinds, with a dining table adjacent. And then, if you fancy an evening in, throw a log on the wood burner and either snuggle up on the comfy sofa or sit back in the armchair – you have all the time in the world to relax, read a book or stream an interesting show on the Smart TV. At bedtime, cottage-style stairs lead to the upper floor, where there are two lovely bedrooms with sloping ceilings, a double and a single, both boasting low windows with pretty rural views. They share a sweet bathroom. In warm weather you’ll want to make use of the garden, perhaps enjoying a morning coffee, grilling a tasty meal on the BBQ or simply sitting back and watching your bovine neighbours munching grass in the next-door field.

The cottage is tucked into the countryside 6 miles from the traditional market town of Brecon, where you’ll find a variety of independent shops and places to eat as well as a magnificent cathedral. For lovers of literature Hay-on-Wye is just 10.5 miles, or you could explore the Bannau Brycheiniog National Park on foot, by bike or perhaps getting adventurous with rock climbing, abseiling or canoeing.
