An ideal getaway for two or a rural escape for a small family, it’s a perfect base for walking, cycling, water sports and golf, close to the lovely town of Llandrindod Wells.

Just across from the paddocks where there are horses and goats, the lodge is a welcoming and well-equipped space where you can relax after a day out exploring. Step straight in to the open-plan living space, where you’ll find a well-designed kitchen area with an island unit incorporating a breakfast bar for two. There’s a separate dining table, too, where you can enjoy hearty breakfasts and drawn-out suppers, play cards or look at a map. When it’s time to stretch out for the evening, head to the comfortable sofas that are arranged around the Smart TV and wood-burner-effect electric fire. There are two compact bedrooms here, a king-size and a twin, which have hanging rails and storage space, and share a shower room. For open-air enjoyment, head out to the enclosed garden, which has a lawn and a patio where you can drink or dine al fresco. Let the warmth of the fire pit accompany a cooler evening, or sink into the hot tub for rejuvenation after a day’s outdoor activities.

Head into the Victorian spa town of Llandrindod Wells, 6 miles, to explore the independent shops and variety of places to eat. Try some water sports on the lake, or walk around it and enjoy the scenery. In Rhayader, 11 miles, all kinds of experiences are on offer, from kayaking to stargazing, and the Elan Valley is just 14 miles, where you’ll find dams, reservoirs and ruggedly beautiful landscapes.

- bring your horse ON holiday: Horse stabling available by arrangement with the owner @ £30 per stay to includes paddock, stable, bedding and water. Hay can also be purchased from the owner. There is parking on-site for a horse truck

- Regret that property does not have an EV charging point and the property electricity supply cannot be used for this purpose. There are three charging points situated in Llandrindod Wells only 6 miles away (High Street Car Park & Metropole Hotel)
