About this property

Montgomery 2.5 miles. The Old Rectory Cottage is a homely, cottage over 100 years old and located next to the owners’ home in Llandyssil, Powys. This Grade II listed building overlooks a picturesque countryside, with parking space for two cars on the gravel driveway, making it ideal for a family of four. Sorry, no pets. The Old Rectory Cottage will welcome you into its wide hallway, decorated with a candelabra and Grandfather clock. Turn left and enter the kitchen and dining area, where a table for four, plus a highchair, waits to be utilised for family dinners. Cooking those dinners can be done with the help of a double oven, ceramic hob, toaster, microwave, and fridge/freezer. No need to volunteer for wash-up duty - just place your plates in the dishwasher! On sun-filled mornings, enjoy breakfast in the courtyard, with seating space for the whole family. Two large, leather sofas face a woodburning stove and Smart TV resting in the sitting room, making this the ideal room to relax after a long day of adventure. A bookcase stocked with games and books wraps around the walls, hugging the lounge with ideas and escape. The stairs lead up to the bathroom, which holds a double walk in, rain head shower, slipper bathtub, and WC. The master bedroom hosts a king-size bed and ample space for a dressing area, and down the hall is the twin bedroom, ideal for two children exhausted from exploring; both rooms overlook the stunning farm landscape of Llandyssil. In the days you choose to explore that landscape, why not visit the Red House Nature Reserve or grab a bite and drink at The Nags Head or the Abermule Inn – under four miles away! The nearby, historic town of Montgomery waits to fulfil your hiking desires on Corndon Hill, your curiosity at the Old Bell Museum, and the internal history buff at Montgomery Castle - all no further than 10 miles from the property. Alternatively, treat your scenic side on a daytrip to Welshpool, where the National Trust Powis Castle and Garden, Glansevern Hall and Gardens, and the Welshpool and Llanfair Light Railway wait to gift greenery and adventure. All this and more wait to welcome you when you book a stay at the Old Rectory Cottage.

The town of Montgomery sits just one mile from the border of England in Mid Wales. Popular with tourists, the town has a delightful selection of individual shops and a variety of pubs and restaurants, including the Michelin star restaurant, The Checkers, a fabulous way to make your holiday truly special. Pay a visit to the ruins of the 13th century Montgomery Castle, which enjoys beautiful views over the town’s timber-framed houses and cobbled streets, and beyond across Wales. The castle also hosts productions of touring theatre groups regularly during the summer. A few miles to the south is the historic market town of Bishop's Castle, an excellent place for a day or night out with its excellent pubs, live music and festivals throughout the year. The wider area is wonderful for walking and there are many cycle routes in the surrounding countryside with varying levels of difficulty. You can venture further into Wales with a drive up to the Snowdonia National Park, or directly west to Cardigan Bay, for the day, or hop back over the border and explore the Shropshire Hills aonb. A charming destination for a holiday.
