The town of Llanfair Caereinion is built upon the site of an old Roman fort, in the valley of the River Banwy. It is a thriving town built around The Church of St Mary, with a Post Office, two supermarkets, and a selection of three different pubs. The annual Llanfair Caereinion Carnival is very popular with locals, and proceeds through the town with a full parade of floats and dancing troupes, providing a Rio carnival atmosphere. There is a river walk along the banks of the Banwy leading to an Arboretum, containing over 25 different species of British trees, an ideal place to explore before stepping back in time and jumping on the start of the narrow gauge heritage steam railway that runs 8.5 miles west to Welshpool. It was as described and very cosy with great views to wake up to. The hot tub was lovely and very well maintained (some shelter around and above would have made it more user friendly especially as it is on top of a hill!) Our only real niggle was the amount of blue bottles (flies) that we had to hoover/sweep up every day. We appreciate we were on a farm but we have never encountered that many before. Fly spray was provided but due to asthma, we were unable to use unfortunately. We did mention this to the owner at the time. However, we still had a lovely stay in a lovely, well designed lodge.
