Guests say

Brynkir Tower offers a unique and memorable stay, with its stunning views and peaceful location being highly praised. Guests appreciate the property's character and the surrounding beauty of North Wales. While the stairs present a challenge, they add to the tower's charm. The property's cleanliness and comfort are generally well-regarded, though some maintenance issues are noted. The lack of Wi-Fi and mobile signal is seen as a bonus by some, allowing for a true escape.

The property is generally found to be clean, with guests noting good overall cleanliness. However, some reviews mention cobwebs and spiders, suggesting room for improvement in detailed cleaning.

The location is highly praised for its beauty and tranquility, offering stunning views and a good base for exploring Snowdonia. The presence of farm animals adds to the rural charm, though some guests note noise from nearby hounds.

Guests find the beds comfortable and the property cosy, but some furniture is described as old or in need of updating. The unique nature of the tower adds to the comfort for many, despite the challenge of steep stairs.

The tower is equipped with essential amenities, but guests suggest that the kitchen and some furnishings could be updated. The steep and numerous stairs are a notable feature, and while they contribute to the property's character, they may not suit everyone.

While some guests mention a welcome cake and milk, there is not enough consistent information across reviews to assess the overall thoughtfulness of the host in terms of gifts or extra touches. Therefore, a score cannot be provided.

About this property

Brynkir Tower is a historic gothic folly perfect for a romantic getaway, located in the Eryri National Park.

Built in 1821 to commemorate the knighthood of King George IV, the 20-metre-high tower has been thoughtfully-renovated using traditional materials after previously falling into disrepair, shedding off years of gothic decay to now exude a warm, welcoming atmosphere complete with elegant and inviting interiors that serve to provide a true castle feel!

Located on the top floor, the sitting room has a wood-burning stove, a TV and DVD player, and 270-degree views. The well-equipped kitchen/dining room has an electric cooker, microwave, fridge and dishwasher, as well as a pine dining table and chairs. There is a double bedroom with a splendid brass bed is followed by a twin-bedded room. The bathroom is located on the fifth floor and is complete with a cast iron roll-top bath where you can lie back, relax and watch the tree tops - sheer bliss!

An internal spiral stone staircase leads you to each of the six rooms, with the sitting room at the top. Situated right in the heart of the Snowdonia National Park there is so much variety here. Make sure you’ve packed your walking boots to tackle a walk up Snowdon (the highest mountain in Wales) or take the easier option of the train! The park has so much to offer everyone from stunning mountain walks, picturesque villages such as Beddgelert and an easy drive to lovely seaside towns like Criccieth. This is a unique property in a great location!

2 dogs are allowed at this property

*IMPORTANT* This property does not have a garden and is in a rural location, which can mean the occasional visiting sheep. Please ensure for your own dog’s safety it is kept on a lead especially at lambing time. The stone steps from floor to floor are steep and are not suitable for people with mobility issues.

Pretty little hamlet known locally as Garn, on the outskirts of Porthmadog, a short drive away. Enjoy lovely views over the mountains and Cwm Pennant. At Porthmadog enjoy a good selection of shops and cafes or take a ride on the Highland Steam Train. Or pop along to Criccieth and enjoy its lovely beaches and castle.

There was a bit of a nack to open the front door. Master bed was hilariously uncomfortable. Softest mattress in the world on a bed frame that made an unbelievable amount of noise if the occupier dared move. House was very very clean. No fire lighters or paper/kindling to light the log burner. Just logs and a lighter. Kitchen was very usable but there was no salt, pepper, olive oil, tea, coffee, or soap for washing dishes, hands, bodies. You need to bring absolutely everything with you.

It's like staying in something out of Harry Potter. Loved snuggling up on the top floor watching bats flit past the window on a late October evening and soaking in a roll top bath looking out of the surrounding countryside from the 4th floor. The tower is adequately supplied with equipment although on the minimal side and some things are a bit scruffy. The driveway to the tower has some deep potholes to watch out for and the stairs are steep. With four floors between the kitchen and the lounge you need to be fit! That said, it was a truly memorable place to stay and we absolutely loved it.

The property is so unique and such a treat for our honeymoon. The milk and Welsh cakes were a lovely touch but we're both vegan which is why we left them (we felt a bit rude so wanted to mention it). As previously mentioned in reviews, the property could do with updating and refreshing a bit (especially the sofa which is a bit small and not very comfy). Even though I knew there were a lot of stairs, you do need to be fairly fit to stay here, especially if you're going from the kitchen up to the living room. I certainly got my steps in this week! The iron and washer were very welcomed, but I only found the instructions for the washing machine after I spent ages trying to find them online with sketchy Internet connection. They could probably do to be left on the washer, rather than in a drawer. On the whole, we had a really lovely time here and would definitely recommend it to anyone (fitness/mobility depending).
