About this property

Llantwit Major 1.2 miles. Bugail Hut is a charming, single-storey shepherd's hut nestled in the countryside of Vale Of Glamorgan St. Donat's near Llantwit Major. Perfect for couples or solo travellers, this romantic shepherd's hut offers a toasty woodburning stove, a firepit, and countryside views. Step inside and let the charm of rustic elegance meet contemporary sophistication in this studio-style retreat. A plush double bed beckons you for a restful slumber, while the delightful shower room offers a place to rinse away the day's adventures. Unlike a classic shepherd’s hut, this haven boasts expansive windows, inviting the beauty of nature to embrace you and your loved ones, positioned in your own sheltered arboretum. At night surrounded by the trees and fairy lights this defines the Welsh word, ‘Cwtch’, meaning an affectionate hug. There’s no literal English translation, but its nearest equivalent is safe place. The woodburning stove fills the space with a glow and comforting warmth, setting the perfect ambiance for intimate meals for two, all against a pretty backdrop. Cooking is a delight in the small but adequate kitchen, featuring a mini oven and a two-ring hob, where you can prepare light lunches or snacks to fuel you on the go. When weather permits, step outside and savour a glass of wine out on the decking, sizzle up some yummy food on the barbecue, or simply relax while being surrounded by a beautiful rural setting and fire pit. Located within a seven-and-a-half-acre arboretum, Tresilian Wood is a haven for nature lovers. Just across the road a kissing gate is the entrance to the Heritage Coastline part of the Welsh Path. Stroll along the shoreline and hunt for ancient fossils, or take in the dramatic cliff-top views stretching across to Devon on clear days.

To one side, just 1.2 miles away, lies Llantwit Major beach and village, where ancient history meets modern convivence. Explore St Illtud’s Church, dating back to 500 AD, and uncover its deep-rooted significance as a center of Celtic Christian culture. The village also offers quaint 14th-century pubs, a traditional butcher, and a local deli. Venture in the other direction to Nash Point Lighthouse, a guiding light for sailors since 1832. Continue onward to Monknash, where you'll find The Plough and Harrow, a charming pub set among the ruins of a medieval monastic grange. With beamed ceilings, Tudor doors, and open fires, it’s the perfect place to enjoy a drink locally crafted Welsh beers and ciders. If you enjoy a long walk you can continue to the spectacular Dunraven Bay, a favourite for bathing with its extensive sandy beach. If your legs are tired you can catch the local bus which stops along the coastline and returns to Tresilian Wood. Experience the serenity of countryside living by escaping to Bugail Hut. Note: This property can be booked with Refs. 1164033, 1170362, 1164032, 1170524, and 1170525, together sleeping up to 16 guests.

Ancient buildings sit on every corner in Llantwit Major, one of the Vale of Glamorgan’s most beautiful villages, with the first church recorded in the settlement more than 1,500 years ago and lush countryside, caves and sandy beaches providing glorious surroundings. Nearby Cowbridge, with its designer shops, provides the chance for some retail therapy, or why not take the short trip to Bridgend, with its town centre shopping and popular outlet village? The dramatically beautiful Glamorgan Heritage Coastline and the Wales Coast Path beckon, with the seaside resorts of Barry Island and Porthcawl boasting sandy beaches, a surf school, great fishing and a popular park. Ogmore-by-Sea on the other hand offers a vast stretch of unspoilt beach and a riding school from where you can take treks along the sand. An easy train or car journey will take you to Cardiff or Swansea for shopping, theatres, concerts, sporting events. Visit the famous open air Folk Museum at St Fagans near Cardiff to discover times gone by. A great central location for exciting days out exploring the beautiful coast and countryside of South Wales.
