I travel a lot and use Sykes cottages and other hotels and cottages frequently, but I have never had to leave a bad review as I need to on this occasion.
I found the cottage owners unfriendly and difficult to get hold of. I had to contact Sykes twice to complain and resolve issues. On arriving at the property it was not clean and I have photos of pubic hair left in the shower soap dish, food left in the fridge, dirty grill pan etc. The sofa is very uncomfortable as it sinks right down so far that I had to put two pillows under the seat to avoid getting chronic back pain. The floorboards creak loudly when you walk about and using the cold tap makes a whooshing sound, neither of which bothered me but obviously annoyed the owners who live upstairs who started deliberately making noise and banging above me whenever I used the kitchen. I have recordings of this on my laptop. The advertisement is misleading as the pictures show just five steps to go up to reach the property but you have to go up those steps, down a long corridor through another outside door, down some more steps round across another path and up a load more steps to reach the actual property. This wasn't too bad in daylight but I hurt my foot slipping down a step I couldn't see when it was dark one early evening. This property wouldn't be suitable for people with mobility issues. That said, the Brecon Beacons were beautiful and the mountains, lakes and waterfalls well worth a visit. It's quiet this time of the year and the mountains had snow on them which added to the breathtaking views.

The owners provided an excellent living accommodation with great attention to detail with regards to cooking utensils, toiletries and linen.
The property was spotless and the super king bed a real treat. However, Sykes advertise the property as having a private garden, with a patio. The photos lead us to believe the property is in its own grounds. In reality it is 20 yards from the ownersâ own home and is totally overlooked. We had to keep a blind shut at all times so that we couldnât be overlooked. We did not have a garden, as the one adjacent to the property belongs to the owners. The âpatioâ is a path around the property. The owners kindly offered us the use of a field adjacent to their garden, however it was overgrown and full of rubble and at times, had sheep in it so we could not let our dog into it. On sunny days we felt âon showâ if we sat outside, as the owner was sitting in her garden and we felt like we were encroaching on her space - however she at no point made us feel uncomfortable, this was just how we felt. Had we known the property was in the ownersâ garden - and also on the same site as another holiday cottage - we would not have booked. We do not blame the owners at all - they did everything we could to make us welcome. Sykes; please make your listings accurate. We have tried to get in touch with you to complain, however there is no option to do so. We would like to email you accurate photos of the property and for you to explain why your listing was falsely advertising the property.

Sarah has set up a lovely place for visitors to stay.
The accommodation is faultless and very well presented. The super king bed was luxurious. Both pubs in the village are highly recommended for food and drink though the lane from Gerryâs place is only a single track we decided not to walk with our four month old baby. Other places to visit include the Carding Mill Valley for spectacular scenery, Church Stretton has some lovely coffee shops and walks in Rectory woods. The Shropshire Discovery Centre was excellent with lovely walks with our dog and baby, a fantastic cafe and shop and a great museum. Stokesay castle has an amazing timber built gatehouse and Ludlow castle was worth a visit. Ludlow in itself is very beautiful as is Much Wenlock. Gerryâs place was an ideal base to explore all of this as a family. Only down side was that from the property, although very rural, there were no footpaths without having to negotiate the lane for around 0.3 of a mile, not far but not easy with an ageing dog and a young baby.

The location and the immediate area is well worth a visit.
However the property is astonishing it is steaped in history and dates back to is use as a Malt House. It has been renovated and restored to such a high level, it retains it character and the quality will reward you with a fantastic visit. The owners are most welcoming and there knowledge of the property and local area wás a great help and we were rewarded with a fabulous long weekend. It would be a mistake not to mention that the kitchen is fully equipped to meet all your requirements and the welcome pack being a splendid suprise was so lovely. Do not dismiss the property you will be reward with special cottage that will enable you to have a lovely holiday. We were so impressed we wil return. Thank You Pete Huxley.

The bed felt like a large single as opposed to a double.
This lead to an uncomfortable nights sleep for two adults. For a self catering apartment it was disappointing that only one small oven tray was provided. Made it difficult for more than one thing to be cooked at a time etc. Also whilst the welcome pack did state to wash everything before use(due to Covid-19) it did not give a good impression to discover dirty cutlery in a cutlery tray that itself was not clean. We made good use of the SmartTv and the walking brochures were an additional bonus to help us plan our days out. Definitely recommend the local Chinese takeaway. Overall a reasonable apartment to stay in and we were grateful for the hand sanitiser and gloves provided.
