What our customers say about their holidays

    • Margaret - Verified booking

We only was expecting 1step of stairs 2 was a bit too much for older people with a few issues.

It was going up with our luggage the main problem . No laminated information we usually get in a Sykes accommodation to let us know where things are and how they work . We did have issues and was difficult to get hold of anybody to sort out . The shop sadly due to the virus was only open a few hours and no one ever answered the out of hours phone . We did eventually solve things ourselves. The View from window is very nice makes a change for us to see the human life as we are used to seeing cows and sheep . We didn’t think the property was as well as equipped as other properties we have been in . Sorry I had to give a low mark for cleaning but when the sun shone on kitchen units they where really marked up with finger marks and the bottle opener felt really dirty . I may sound a bit picky but for years I was a caretaker cleaner and housemaid and my partner ran a 9 bedroom BxB so know what we are saying would loved to have cleaned them but if I had you wouldn’t have believed me . Will say this didn’t spoil our holiday as we are the age of make do and mend and we are only here for a week so make the most of it . Sorry I’ve been to many Sykes holidays over the years and this is the first time I’ve had to say things like this . If it wasn’t for the stairs we would probably go back to Station View again .

Firstly let me say we had a lovely week at Station View.

It was really everything it was described to be. The location was great with a brilliant view up the main street. Perfect for people watching. Also very convenient for picking up a fresh coffee, or local shopping. Access to railway station (one of the main reasons we chose this property) was perfect. There was nothing really that we were short of. BUT, would we stay there again????? Maybe not. Too many niggly shortcomings that were really unnecessary and which spoiled what would have been a brilliant stay. Firstly a constant dripping tap in the kitchen, like Chinese water torture. A mirror in the bedroom that anyone under 5.5 can't see into. A smoke alarm which went off if the oven door was opened (unless it was covered in cling film as it was when we arrived.) A tiny tv, and no terrestrial coverage, only online apps. No shower caddy, so had to put soap down on the floor tray!!! No hook on the bathroom door, so clothes had to go on the loo, or on the floor. The cheapest of cheap 2 slice toasters and a leaky kettle. As I say, all only minor in the grand scheme of things, but so easily put right and which would have made a world of difference.

We were very pleased to stay at Spire View.

Everything was to our liking, and as described in the property description, although we found the bed mattresses a little on the hard side, but realise this can be very subjective. The unexpected (to us) arrival of King Charles to Pickering on the Monday morning, was an added bonus. We were able to have a grandstand view of the King as he met and shook hands with the crowds as he walked from the train station and up the market place. The bonus of the convenient, free off-street parking, in the middle of Pickering was very much appreciated and was one of the reasons for selecting this property for our stay.

Great service from Skyes and kept up to date with everything.

We have holidayed a few times with you and also with this property (Spires View twice and now Station View) all in Pickering. The flat was comfortable and perfectly located for everything. Our only grump was their wasn't any basic things like washing up liquid, very little toilet roll and toilet soap. The kitchen sink was blocked which was partially fixed, it blocked later again and the bed collapsed which we fixed but it does need better attention and an allen key to repair it properly. Minor problems but otherwise a perfect flat. We will use it again though as we enjoyed our stay.
