    Bishop Auckland Holiday Cottages

Bishop Auckland - a lovely market town nestled in the Vale of Durham - is as rich in history as it is in natural beauty. No visit to Bishop Auckland would be complete without a trip to Auckland Castle, once home to the wealthy and powerful Prince Bishops of Durham. The castle grounds also play host to a yearly Food Festival, celebrating local produce and world cuisine.

Visitors may also like to head to Bishop Auckland's Town Hall. Truly the heart of the local community, it's the perfect place to enjoy art exhibitions, plays and live music. There are also some brilliant cafes and shops nearby - ideal for picking up a souvenir.

At Snaptrip, we offer thousands of properties and backed by a best price guarantee, so even the choosiest of guests are satisfied. Use our filter option to search for holiday cottages that tick all your boxes. Some of our holiday cottages come with great features - from games rooms to private hot tubs. If you need any further help - perhaps an accessibility query or a special request - our friendly customer service team are just an email away.

Overall, this is an excellent cottage with gorgeous views, both from the living room and the kitchen (hello alpacas!

). It was a great base for a week in Sep 2024 when we were very lucky to have very hot, sunny and summery weather! Do recommend the Stanhope Agricultural show (and others in the area if you visit in September). We also really appreciated the YouTube video showing how to approach the cottage - no issues at all for us with good parking for 2 cars (i20 and a Yaris). Top tip: read the manual provided to know how to switch the oven on! We appreciated the different coloured towels for the different rooms, and loved the main shower. The kitchen is much larger than it appears and is a wonderful place to hang out with your family and friends. We loved the American fridge freezer! We loved the size of the TV though worth noting that we could not find live TV channels (guessing that it is due to the rural location?). Good selection of games and books too. The niggles we experienced are easily resolvable with a higher standard of pre-arrival housekeeping. We found white dog hairs on the dining room chairs, the freezer drawers were not pristine (unlike the fridge) and the oven was not clean, meaning it was very smoky. We also experienced some toilet roll anxiety as we were left with only 4 for a party of 5 for an entire week, so we would recommend more being left! Another minor annoyance is that the plates/bowls etc. do not easily fit the dishwasher. Nothing worth contacting Sykes/owner about during our holiday but wanted to mention this as an easy area for improvement. I would have no hesitation in booking again - the fire was a lovely treat on the cooler nights.

We spent our family Christmas here, and we were extremely happy.

The surrounding area is just stunning. Miles of green, a view of horses from one window and alpacas from the other. The property is dog friendly, they provided dog towels and bowls. There is a porch on either side of the house so you can dry off the dogs without dragging mud in. If you do however they leave you very well equipped with hoover/mop so you can keep it clean. This might be the best stocked rental we have ever stayed in. Knowing we were cooking a Christmas dinner we brought our own oven trays, yorkie trays, etc but we needn’t have, it had everything we could have possibly needed and more. The oven was brilliant and the fridge and freezer were more than ample for our Christmas food and drinks. On our drive there we remembered we forgot our firestick, so we could watch Christmas films on Christmas Eve, didn’t need to worry about that either, the TV was a smart tv and had excellent WiFi. The bedrooms were more than big enough, and the shower pressure, well I miss it already. We made plenty use of the wood burner in the front room and the stocked games cupboard. There was simply nothing missing from our stay. It was very clean and we hope to come back.

A lovely cottage in a peaceful area.

Bolt's View was a great base to explore the beautiful North Pennines. Very good for walkers with numerous options for walks from the door. The cottage had very comfortable new sofas (not the Chesterfields shown in the photos), quality mattresses, there was plenty of space and storage and a good shower in the main bathroom (we didn't try the one in the en-suite). There was a good size smart TV with Netflix & other apps etc. Be warned that the floorboards in the twin room are extremely noisy if you're a light sleeper! If you're bringing a dog it's worth noting that the outside space, which is terraced, is not accessible directly from the cottage. It's across the lane that runs at the back of the cottages so you would need to supervise your dog when letting it out. The only thing we felt could be improved upon would be the addition of some garden chairs that could be moved around the garden as it would have been lovely to have been able to sit on the bottom terrace. We would stay again and also recommend.

A lovely cottage located in a peaceful little village.

A great hub making exploring further north possible. The kitchen is exceptionally well equipped, I was especially surprised to find that the owners had even factored in the dogs when thinking what a guest might need whilst staying at this location… with that being said I was disappointed to find that in the very detailed and helpful handbook/manual of appliances, that they had mentioned that dogs were not allowed on furniture or even upstairs… as this is not my home I attempted to respect their rules, which wasn’t always possible (no stair gate provided, dogs had to be shut in kitchen at night) as I do not restrict my dogs in their home and they are used to following my family wherever they please. Correcting my dogs was not how I wanted to spend my short break. I would not have booked this property had I known of these restrictions beforehand. Please make it known in the details for future potential guest. Thanks.

The property is very well presented with lots of thought and had plenty of equipment in the kitchen for a family .

Extra touches such as the radio , games , extra blankets and pillows were a great touch . En-suite and bathroom excellent quality . Beds , bedding were of good quality . The cottage is fabulous for a family . The hill up to the property was fine as it was a sunny dry day but it could be challenging in wet conditions . But you could park down the bottom . The communal footpath up to the property is very steep and is a little overgrown so does need cutting back a little . There is parking at the front or back of property and a gated garden . The garden has a bench and a picnic table to relax . The picnic table could do with a parasol for shade . The garden is planted beautifully but could do with a prune to make it easier to sit out in the garden without bees all around you . So we didn’t sit in the garden . The area is a beautiful place to walk and discover .
