What our customers say about their holidays

    • Liam - Verified booking

We stayed here for a week with our 4 kids from age 13 - newborn, my mother in law and our dogs.

This house suited all of us perfectly, our middle kids enjoyed the snug room, our eldest had a TV in his room, the adults enjoyed the patio and kitchen. We all spent time in the huge hot tub, particularly the kids! We played boardgames around the large dining table and watched movies on the living room sofa. Upstairs is so cosy and the beds were so comfy, I am going to buy the same duvets as these (one of the single beds is only suitable for a child, I would say no older than 5 years old as the mattress isn't suitable for any older). The full length mirrors in the double rooms were really handy and the TV in the chimney breast room was appreciated by our eldest at night and early morning. The garden was brilliant for the dogs and the utility room useful for keeping their beds in, the downstairs toilet was useful for the kids in and out of the hot tub and for my mother in law as she can struggle using the stairs too much. There were only a couple of things that could do with adressing but it didn't affect our holiday at all. Maybe provide hand wash in the bathrooms and kitchen, we just went and bought some so not an issue. More tea towels would have been useful, again not a problem. Salt and pepper would have been a bonus, other places we have stayed have always provided these along with other herbs and spices. I think it would be beneficial to lay a strip of artificial grass from the hot tub to the back door as its quite dusty and muddy around the paving, we had to wash our kids feet when they didn't remember to put their sliders on before or after getting in - which was often. The kettle was full of limescale, we tried to clean it but couldn't get it clean, we just bought one for our stay. Ensure the hot tub is deep cleaned and serviced, my husband drained it, refilled it and added appropriate chemicals as the water had a green tinge to it and a thick layer of scum appeared when using the jets. It was much better after a refill and filter clean. The area is a beautiful little village with lovely residents, there is a lovely walk just down the lane to the farmers fields and a nice walk up the lane towards the church. There's a little park too which the kids enjoyed and we all had a game of football too. There's lots to do nearby and places to eat or get a takeaway, Ely is 10 minutes away and is absolutely stunning! We had an amazing time and are hoping to book to come back again. A week just isn't long enough, thank you for having us we really enjoyed our stay.

We had a really lovely stay and the house has so much potential!

However, there are several things which would have improved our stay and which should be taken into consideration for future guests: - having read concerns about the cleanliness of the hot tub, we were advised it would be emptied and cleaned which it was. However, after one use, there was green slime on the sides of the tub and the water was yellowing - there were reports of a dipped bed in the middle. This had not been tended to and my dad found the bed hadn’t been put together properly and this was actually a very quick fix after a couple of uncomfortable nights which could have been avoided - lovely that games were provided however none were playable as most pieces missing - when using the hoover to neaten the place up we found wet muck inside the hoover which smelt vulgar and had to be cleaned by us in order for the hoover to be used - the oven temperature controls only worked intermittently - the front door lock had a bit of wood inside that had to be regularly moved out of the way so you could get the key in - No coasters for cups/glasses. - Saucepans (except for blue iron pots) worked intermittently on the induction hob. - Window in front bedroom was jammed and couldn't be closed (this was mentioned in the handbook but unclear how long it has been like this for). - sinks were very slow to drain and bathrooms smelt damp (there was a dehumidifier blasting out in the lounge on arrival). Pipe dripping from sink in en suite - Netflix etc provided on tv but no signal for live tv This is a lovely property and fortunately these things were only a mild hindrance on our stay, however all of these should have been sorted for the price charged, particularly when they had been raised in the feedback of others.

The property upon arrival looked very picturesque.

However upon entering, it was very dusty, full of cobwebs, plus the skirting boards and windows have not been cleaned for months. The carpets clearly had not been vacuumed before our arrival. The kitchen area was not as clean as we would expect for the price we were paying, (it was cleaned way better when we left than when we arrived). The tables were dirty as when we wiped them down with new dishcloths they needed binning as they were black. In addition, the dishwasher did not work (not good when theres 8 guests staying) even though I had been informed 6 days earlier that they knew there was a problem and it would be rectified prior to our arrival. Some of the soft furnishings have seen better days and would be better off being removed from the property. There was rubbish bagged up outside on arrival which was being attacked by a local cat and spread all over. The actual rubbish bin was full to the brim with windfall apples which meant there was nowhere for us to place rubbish prior to leaving - we could however, use the recycling bin. The upstairs was far cleaner (apart from carpets). We were offered the chance to have someone come in and clean the Property on the Saturday night but this was not suitable to use, as one of our party is immuno surpressed and could not be near strangers. No one wants to acknowledge our issues even though they were raised on our return and to the cleaning manager whilst there. PS you also need a decent tin opener as the one in the house does not open tins! I never comment on problems but feel in this instance that as we have been ignored i will. This property could be amazing if it was cleaned properly.

A very nice property in a good location for exploring the area.

The bedrooms and bathrooms were well presented with good facilities. Downstairs however, there were several things that were disappointing. The oven and hob were difficult to use, even using the manufacturer instructions provided. The hob had no instructions and on requesting these from the housekeeper we got an e-mail that showed dials for a different model of the make. Clear written instructions should be added to the house book. Similarly the washing machine manufacturer's instructions were for a completely different make to the one provided. The dishwasher was out of order for the duration of our stay and no tea towels were provided. As a property for 8 people the provision of crockery and cutlery was inadequate; there were only 8 knives and forks and 8 wine glasses! Even with a dishwasher people do not want to be continually washing up. The dining table is of very poor quality with the joints separating and uneven. There are only 6 dining chairs and 6 breakfast chairs meaning we were moving chairs around at each mealtime. We had to request keys from the housekeeper to be able to open the bi-fold doors to the garden and the back door to the property has a very stiff lock making it difficult to use. The housekeeper was very helpful and responsive. This feedback will, I hope, be taken in a constructive manner as the owners have a very nice property that could be turned into a super one with some further, modest, investment. At present I would say that the property is not good value for money but with improvement could be.

The cottage accommodation and layout suited our requirements perfectly.

It was spacious with a good sized garden. However there were a few issues. One of the en suite bathrooms necessitated that bedrooms occupants be very friendly indeed as there was no door and the toilet was directly visible to anyone in/sitting on the bed. The sofa in the lounge was very low and proved uncomfortable and difficult for the two 70+ year olds in the party to get out of a seated position. Although instructions were provided for the use of the hob, ovens and washer/dryer they were the manufacturer’s leaflets and rather poor - we never did manage to crack the proper use of the microwave. We would have liked instructions of some sort regarding use of the hot tub - the water turned cloudy and yellow 2 days into our stay and we were unsure as to what we should do. However we got in touch with the caretaker who quickly sent someone to check out and deal with the problem. Steve the owner showed concern when he heard that we had problems with the WiFi on day2 but the problem was an area situation with Open Reach in attendance - we did appreciate his concern.
