What our customers say about their holidays

    • Cheryl - Verified booking

We had a wonderful holiday at 1 Brow Cottages.

The cottage is lovely and full of character, but also comfortable, with both central heating and two traditional wood burning fires. Newly decorated throughout, we thought it was a lovely place to come home to each evening. It had all the amenities needed, the beds were comfy, and it was clean throughout. For those who need it, the wifi worked perfectly - our 10 year old played on his console while we there and had no complaints. The cottage felt like it was in the middle of nowhere (which we loved), but it also wasn't too far from main roads; we found it easily, and it was close to many local villages and beaches. During our 3-day stay we explored Whitby, Runswick Bay, Staithes, Goathland, and Sandsend Beach. At the time of our stay dogs were allowed off lead on all beaches, so our pooch had a great time (they're not allowed on some beaches between May and September). For anyone with dogs, there is a large, fully enclosed garden at the back in which you can let your dog out to play. This was perfect for our greyhound and meant we could safely let him out in the evening for a run. It's worth noting that out the front there are often sheep roaming about, so this space at the back is ideal. Finally, Derek (the owner)'s welcome email was also very helpful. It had all the information that we needed for a great stay. If we're holidaying in this area again, we'll definitely stay here, and we'd recommend the cottage to family and friends.

We had a lovely break away in Riverbank View and managed to avoid the heatwave by being a bit further North in the country.

The cottage is equipped with pretty much everything you could need for a cosy stay and the lovely river view was the icing on the cake. The village is lovely and we enjoyed waving to the passengers on the steam train as it went past. We did the steam train journey ourselves which was pleasant but hugely expensive (£58 for 4 of us to go to the next stop, 3 miles away!). We had a pleasant stop in the coffee shop at 'Hogsmeade Station'. We visited Whitby and Scarborough (which I wouldn't return to) but we loved Filey and Robin Hood Bay, which were both very nice. We recommend the Witching Post Inn in Egton, a couple of miles away for a really lovely meal and great hospitality. The only negative is that none of us found the beds comfy at all as they were very hard so I don't think 3 out of the 4 of us had a decents nights sleep - however, that's a personal thing and you might not have the same issue as us! Very quiet, well-equipped and a good base to explore the local area (and the EV charger was an excellent bonus).

      The cottage is delightful.

It's old so bear that in mind. The stairs are steep and narrow but an overweight, arthritic 67 year old managed them easily with care! There are no frills but everything is top quality. The double bed was the best I have ever slept in...and I'm a fussy sleeper. The garden is vast and secure and ideal for inquisitive dogs. The heating is easy to manage; I didn't use the two woodburners at all during my stay but they would have made it very cosy. The cottage is quite remote and very peaceful. My only "better if" would be there was no washing up liquid and only rather dodgy looking hand-wash. Don't expect a welcome pack, but there were sachets of tea coffee and milk available in an emergency. You will need to bring your supplies with you...the village shop in Goathland has the bare essentials only. The directions and information from the owner were excellent. If my knees will stand it, I'd certainly book again! The area is beautiful, even in the wet and wind....of which there was a great deal.

We've had such a lovely stay in this home, thank you so much! Very clean and well appointed. Of course it's the best location we could ask for, especially with two little train enthusiasts. We've enjoyed evening strolls to the engine sheds to see the steam engines being put to sleep, walks on the old tracks in many directions (to Beck Hole was our favourite) and of course a ride on the train to Goathland. For food, we've enjoyed cake at the Old School Coffee Shop, great curd tarts and Pizza on Monday evenings. Also a quick drive to Sleights to stop at Radfords the Butchers and Bothams of course. I believe we visited a waterfall each day, each unique and memorable (mostly memorable for the journey to get close to them!). Make sure to take the long route to Falling Foss. Great WIFI, great washer dryer, comfy beds - we've slept so well! Fast smart TV. Brill parking space. Extremely happy first guests!! Thank you.

A stunning little cottage with the most amazing view of the balcony of the river and steam trains passing by!

(Even caught a glimpse of a herd of deer, lots of stoats and plenty of birds!) The cottage was clean, well layed out, spacious and well equip! We cannot thank you enough for creating this beautiful space for people to stay in! We loved the small touches like the welcome hamper of biscuits and crisps and my partner and I couldn’t stop using the lazy boy sofa ! The kitchen has everything you need and more. The local area is also beautiful. A 30 second walk to Grosmont station and a local pub and a stunning hours hike to Goathland which we did 2 days in a row! Highly recommend the inn on the moor. Reasonably priced and gorgeous food! The beds are a little hard to sleep on but other than that everything was so perfect. We have already recommended to so many friends and family and will absolutely be returning! (Could also do with a pen to write in the guest book) Thank you again!
