What our customers say about their holidays

    • Lindsey - Verified booking

Great location and lovely of the owners to leave out a bottle of wine for us on arrival.

Really lovely cottage, fully equipped with a tumble dryer, washing machine and dishwasher as well as great space and accommodation with both bath and shower. But there are some 'buts'. We had to rewash the towels as they were stained and smelled of cigarette smoke. They were good quality so washed up a treat. The kitchen floor is unsafe and in urgent need of attention - its collapsed under the vinyl and you can lose your footing in the cooker area. The paddock 'grass' was knee high and difficult to use for the dogs and us - could have been mowed. The shower head is held on by string in the bathroom and the exterior clothes airer is totally broken. It would have been useful to have a hose attachment for the outside tap to rinse the dogs and there is no sign on the exterior pillars to say this is Barn View, making it difficult to find initially. The TVs in each of the 2 bedrooms were not working on arrival and are not connected to anything - so it would have been better not to have them in the rooms at all. The tumble drier water tank was so full that the water filter is also full of water and was leaking onto the kitchen floor when we arrived. There was an exterior drain issue caused by damage to the drain prior to our arrival which necessitated DynoRod attending. This was not the owners fault in any way but we were asked over 3 successive days to leave our key out under the front door mat, which was not possible as the mat would have revealed the keys. So we left the property unlocked to allow access only to discover that the owner lived opposite and attended anyway so we needn't have done this. The cottage just needs sone tlc to make it back up to standard.

Tidewood is a beautiful place to share with family and friends.

The wraparound floor to ceiling windows give amazing views across the countryside and to the sea beyond. We loved watching the sunsets from the deck. The beds are very comfortable and having 2 walk in showers was useful for those in our group with limited mobility, likewise having the living areas and bedrooms on one floor. It was lovely having a wood burning stove. We also enjoyed the garden and watching the birds and butterflies. The kitchen was very well stocked with ample pots and pans, large fridge, freezer and a great coffee machine. Although we didn’t have one, it is very dog friendly with lots of walks on the doorstep. It was also easy to explore many of the local beaches and towns by car. We also enjoyed having a great pub with very good food within walking distance. Thank you to Elizabeth and Steve for all the hard work and thought they clearly put in to make Tidewood a wonderful home for a holiday.

From the moment we pulled up, we were made to feel very welcome by the Owner, Roy, who left us a welcome bottle of wine!

The cottage ticked all the boxes and exceeded our expectations. It was in a remote area, but within walking distance of the lovely coast of Welcombe Bay. The cottage itself was a 'home from home' and the log burner was an added bonus. The cottage was clean and comfortable with everything we needed and our two doggies, Wilson (Vizsla) and Finn (Cockapoo) were over the moon to be allowed to run in the adjacent field, with stunning views across the valley and beyond. We also walked half a mile to the local pub 'The Old Smithy Inn' where we were made to feel welcome in the lovely setting of a thatched traditional pub. Overall, a lovely cottage, fantastic place to stay, highly recommended and just what the Doctor ordered!! Will definitely be visiting again, all being well.

      Barnview is a beautiful property.

We would definitely love to come back next year. The property was very clean and comfortable. It was perfect to us. We loved the enclosed garden and felt so safe there with our 2 dogs. As outdoor people we loved sitting in the garden. Our only minor critique would be that the garden and surrounding area looked like it hadn't been tended too in a while. There were weeds growing through the boundary fence and patio to the rear and side. The view of the property did not quite match the beautifully presented photos on your website. This said we had a fantastic time there and would highly recommend this property to everyone. It location is perfectly placed between Bideford and Bude and is only a short drive to local amenities.

    • Mrs Maloney - Verified booking

The property is lovely and very well equipped. Had everything we needed and was cosy and warm. It is in a remote area and access is via 3 or 4 miles of narrow country lanes. Tricky at night! Nonetheless, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay having visited Lundy Island, Spekes Mill Waterfall along the Coast Path (half hour scenic walk from the cottage), Bude, Clovelly, Lynmouth and Linton. North Devon is a wonderful part of the country. There is a hotel at Hartland Quay (5 mins drive) or 10 to 15 minute walk. It's all uphill to walk back. Lots of great walking to be done from the cottage if you don't want to drive anywhere.
