What our customers say about their holidays

    • Carol - Verified booking

We were not 'on holiday' as such, but staying to be near family before half term.

First, the good bits. The owners are absolutely lovely, so friendly and welcoming. The views are spectacular and in summer it would undoubtedly be a fabulous place to walk etc. The beds are comfy and the underfloor heating very effective - no cold toes! But now, the cons. The following list will make it sound as if this place is horrible - it isn't. But it's only fair that people going here know. The single 'living room' is about 13ft square and has the kitchen, a dining table, the TV and a mismatched 'cottage' set of a two seater sofa and two chairs in it. The sofa in particular has springs which are on their last legs and the three flat cushions don't help much. The fridge is tiny, good job managing if you actually are the four adults the cottage nominally accommodates. There is nowhere to store food, so we had to just leave everything 'pantry' on surfaces including the windowsill. The bedding was very thin and not really adequate for October. This should be listed as 'basic' accommodation, because it really is quite bleak. But the main 'minus' is the peculiar smell in the kitchen, which was worse near the fridge. If I had to describe it I guess I would say 'dog' as in dirty dog in from rolling in something. We managed it with Febreze but it was rather unpleasant. As we were only there for four nights we lived with it, but it was nasty. Also the cleaning is a bit cursory - black mould around the bathroom sink plughole for instance. We all have it at home (guilty as charged!) but it should never be found in a rental.

Stayed at the Stackyard at Witton Hall Farm.

Unbelievable! The most amazing place we have stayed so far. The lodge is beautifully laid out and decorated with gorgeous views of the countryside. Arrived to a welcome pack of prosecco, chocolates, milk and fresh farm eggs which was a lovely touch and the eggs were beautiful! The lodge is really well equipped with everything you could possibly need in particular the kitchen area including BBQ utensils. The owner Chris and the rest of the team at site are fantastic and have been on hand any time we needed them. We had a minor issue with the hot tub not working correctly and within 15 minutes of notifying the owners, they were there to fix it. This is a suberb holiday rental with high quality living and sleeping areas, Beds very comfortable, great kitchen/dining area and all very high spec with quality amenities. There were 5 of us staying and all felt the space was brilliant with plenty of different areas to sit and not be on top of each other. Loved seeing the Alpacas and horses every day and feeding them apples and carrots. Outdoor space is spectacular to take in the beautiful views with a corner unit lounge by the outdoor BBQ and a seperate table and chairs with a built in fire pit. Plus the hot tub is fantastic with outdoor lighting and fairy lights over the tub. Amazing location, highly recommend. Plus the owners/managers really go ouy of their way to make you feel welcome. Amazing holiday had by all, thank you. We will book again specifically for here and highly recommend!x

The grounds were immaculate and wonderful for our two spaniels especially the field out back, and the beaches and woodland walks were fantastic.

The owners were very friendly and helpful but we always maintained our privacy. Just a few things to note were that there were no recycling facilities at the premises that we were aware of. Also, the fridge was very noisy which was ok if the television was on but we were aware of it quite often. Perhaps it was no louder than any other fridge but we noticed it being as the lounge and kitchen were all in one room. We also struggled with the limited amount of available cupboard space in the kitchen for our groceries. Although these were all very minor things and we still managed very well and had a relaxing holiday. Saltburn and the coastline is a great place and extremely close and we visited places all along the coast from Robins Hood’s Bay to Runswick Bay and can’t recommend the North Yorkshire Moors area highly enough for a holiday destination.

We had a wonderful Christmas break at The Stackyard.

The property was warm and comfortable and decorated for Christmas which was a thoughtful touch. It’s the perfect house for entertaining and has the bonus of a hot tub. The property sleeps six and we are just two with a small dog, but the living space and layout was great for welcoming friends and family. Secure garden for the dog is a must for us and all of the properties on site have this feature. The nearby local dog walking is great too. Overall an excellent property that we would highly recommend. Our second stay at Witton Hall Farm, our first at The Stackyard. We intend visiting again and trying another of the fabulous properties on offer. A special thanks to Chris (one of the owners) who came almost immediately when I raised a small problem we were having with the heating. Fixed in no time. A truly lovely stay.

Lovely cottage, clean comfy and well equipped.

Nicely laid out and brilliant underfloor heating so nice and warm no faffing with messy log burners. excellent wifi books games and dvds if you fancy a quiet day/evening. Village has a good fish and chip shop very large portions we shared 1 portion. Pie shop/butchers good and local general shop. Close to saltburn redcar marske skinningrove 5-10 mins drive. whitby staiths ect 30 min drive. Lots of lovely walks in the area too. Owners are lovely very helpful. Dog field not fully enclosed which would be a little better if it was for our dog, as hes an escape artist who goes deaf at the sight of a rabbit ect. Very quiet peaceful location plus electric car charging too which isnt too expensive unlike some places.
