What our customers say about their holidays

    • Caroline - Verified booking

Overall, we did enjoy our stay, and while the cottage is well equipped and in a stunning location, on balance we will not be returning.

The positives were the extremely comfortable bed, plentiful hot water, well equipped kitchen, including a very welcome airfryer. The welcome pack consisted of about 150ml of milk, a packet of chocolate biscuits, and a fruit loaf. The location is great for recharging your batteries, in beautiful peaceful surroundings. The people of Rostrevor and Warrenpoint were all so friendly and helpful, we really enjoyed meeting them. The cottage was also immaculately clean. However, the condition of the access route, particularly for the last quarter of a mile renders it not for the fainthearted. The lack of phone signal, and the lack of safe drinking water should all be mentioned when booking. There was a large plastic drum of water, but we could not be confident of drinking it as we did not know how long it was there. Having texted both numbers to arrange key collection, between Thursday evening and Friday morning, without reply, I then phoned on Friday lunchtime to be advised of the arrangements. We arrived about 7. No fuel starter pack, there were two logs, but no means of starting a fire. Outside light was not working. It was a windy evening, we used the bath mat to block the large gap under the front door through which a fairly cold draught was coming. Other issues were less major: sweeping brush handle kept falling off, toilet seat was not properly fixed, the bathroom mirror was over the toilet, with the shaving light being over the sink on the opposite wall, the handle was missing on bathroom cupboard, chips on cup and glass; the washing machine was not available to us, it appeared to be in a locked shed behind the other cottage; the front steps are very uneven and quite slippy. I did text and WhatsApp these issues to the landlord at the end of our stay in the hope the they would be addressed for future holiday makers, but disappointingly we did not receive a reply to either message.

This was a beautiful secluded place to stay with stunning views all around.

The cottage was well presented kitchen, bathroom, beds were all very clean. Had everything you'd need and all worked well. The stove was great as it was cool inside at night. We didn't find the roadway up to the cottage too bad, just the last stretch approaching the house was loose gravel track. On the negative side I didn't find the mattresses in the cottage with green door that comfortable. I do suffer with back problems sometimes. The big bed in the end room was not level and was very hard and springy. Had sore back next morning. Moved to the other room and the mattress was a bit better but not great. This might not bother some. If you are bringing pets be careful on the lanes. I had 2 dogs. One of mine got really spooked by a big tractor and got out of his collar as I was holding him at side of road. He nearly went under it but I managed to grab him by the neck. Got a terrible fright. Would have been so much easier if farmer had just stopped for a few seconds and let me walk past but he just kept coming I had to yell for him to stop. The yard is fenced well but there is no gate to the lane, I kept my lurcher on lead all the time as she would easily jump the fence and there are livestock nearby. So many lovely places to visit nearby here, kilbroney park and Mourne mountains were amazing. Lovely restaurants and bars in rostervor. The rostervor inn had lovely food. Everyone was so friendly as well. Hope to get back here again sometime.

The Irish weather wasn't perfect, but the Irish cottage was.

It was bliss sitting in front of the cosy wood stove, eating fish and chips from Sharkey's of Warrenpoint, and listening to the rain pelting down outside. Very atmospheric. The road up to the cottage was long and sometimes rocky, but it was worth it for the peace and isolation and the stunning scenery - mountains on three sides and a view out towards Carlingford Lough. At night the twinkling lights were gorgeous. The cottage itself was spotlessly clean (much appreciated in these Covid times) comfortable and the owners have gone to a great deal of trouble to make sure it is supplied with everything you could need and want. A lot of attention has been paid to the layout of the cottage and I liked the way the living area is well separated from the sleeping area. It's deceptively spacious for such an old building, with nice roomy bathrooms. There are plenty of radiators as well, which along with the stove, I imagine would make the cottage warm in winter. I would definitely recommend this cottage to others and definitely stay there again myself. Thanks to Yvonne and Eammon for providing such a lovely retreat and in such a lovely part of Northern Ireland. Unfortunately the booking experience with Sykes was a bit of a shambles and not very encouraging with regard to using them again.

      Wow, what a fantastic cottage!

The hall as you enter is stunning. My 6 year old son said it looks like 1st class in the Titanic. The cottage is very spacious and feels bigger on the inside than it looks on the outside. The kitchen is huge and very well equipt with everything you'll need for cooking. Having two bathrooms was very handy especially since two of the bedroom's are downstairs. All of the beds were comfy except the double upstairs which is quite hard. My children absolutely loved playing in the garden and we even had an Easter egg hunt out there. One bonus which we haven't had in other places we've stayed is the record player, we spent lots of time looking through the records and listening to some old favourites. The selection of games dvds and jigsaws was great and the children really enjoyed them The location of the cottage is fantastic. We visited Titanic, Mount Stewart, Castle ward the transport museum and Newtownards for shopping and coffee. I would definitely recommend this cottage tp friends and family, Many thanks

Our holiday was originally booked for September 2023 but due to unforseen circumstances we had to push the holiday back to June 2024.

I will say Sykes weren't very helpful but the owner was fantastic in helping with the rebooking for the new dates and very understanding. The house is beautiful, the entrance hall alone was amazing. The kitchen is lovely and big and the perfect communal area, even when preparing meals the rest of the family could sit around the table and chat and no one was getting in the way. Having the two sitting rooms was perfect because if anyone wanted to have some quiet time they could, my partner enjoyed listening to a couple records in there. The view is stunning and I loved just sitting by the window with a cuppa. There is a tesco less than 10 minutes away which was perfect as we done a large shop but still had to pop in most days for bits and bobs. We met the owners on the last day and they were very friendly. We will definitely be back again in a couple of years (would be sooner if we hadn't already booked somewhere for 2025).
