What our customers say about their holidays

      A 5* experience!

'The Bothy' is a delightful place for a vacation. It is adjacent to the owners property, 'The Coach House', in a lovely rural location, within easy reach of a range of places to visit. The owners are a delightful couple who are friendly and knowledgeable should you wish to discuss the locality or have any issues (unlikely as The Bothy is presented in an excellent condition). The accommodation is attractive with original features such as wall and ceiling beams, whilst having been tastefully modernised to provide all key facilities. Our dog was nicely catered for with an enclosed patio area and semi-enclosed garden/field area for exercise and fun. The nearest pub, The Moody Cow, was already fully booked across the weekend we were there, so booking before you arrive is advised, as it looks to be very nice (they only take email or 'phone bookings). Ross-on-Wye (~10 mins) appears, most unfortunately, to have suffered in recent times with many vacant shops. Of the local towns Monmouth (~15 mins) was the most delightful, with a wide selection of independent shops as well as a small Waitrose and M&S Food Store, alongside a wide range of restaurants. Even though it was only a weekend break, we thoroughly enjoyed visits to Symonds Yat (~15 mins) and 'Waterfall Country' in the Brecon Beacons (~1.5 hrs).

We’ve just stayed for a week at the olde house with family, (4 Adults, 2 children) and were delighted with our stay & choice of property.

The property is well equipt and had everything we required for our stay. The owners Jane & Peter were great and live close by which is a bonus. Friendly people and to hand but at the same time not intrusive. The Garden is fantastic and very well maintained. We enjoyed many evenings sat out on the patio admiring the garden. Great garden furniture & BBQ is available for cooking outdoors. The garden was also secure and our 8 month old Labrador also loved it. This property is situated in a small quiet village location so ideal if this is what you are looking for. As there were six of us staying we utilised the snug as a third bedroom which was fine as this left the lounge & dining area along with the patio via sliding doors from the lounge for living spaces. The bed in the snug is a high quality sofa bed that looked new and we both commented on how comfortable this was. To summarise this property ticked all of the boxes & we wouldn’t hesitate recommending to others. It’s a property we will look to stay at again in the future. Thanks Jane & Peter. Best regards, Kevin & family.

We just loved this cottage from the moment we walked through the door.

The comfortable lounge with the open fire and everything needed in a home from home. We particularly liked the older part of the building with so many original features. Just loved the enormous old fire place in the snug. The stairs and doors amazing, what stories they could tell. We slept very well and often late. We spent a lot of time sitting on the patio listening to the birdsong and watching the bees and butterflies busy in the borders and relaxing. The garden itself is enormous and extends a long way back. We recommend The Alma at Linton. You don't need to drive vast distances to find places to visit, Monmouth, Ross on Wye, Forest of Dean to name a few. We were exceptionally lucky with the weather for time of the year. Lots of wild daffodils everywhere. Thank you Jane and Peter for a lovely holiday. Thank you Jane for the Chinese lanterns and Cyclamen plants which are now in our garden in Lincolnshire.

We have stayed at numerous Sykes' cottages over the years but I must admit that the owners of the Bothy are the most helpful we have come across.

They even took my wife to a local historical society meeting as they knew we were interested in moving to the area. This is an upside down cottage with the living room on the first floor. It is very cosy and the the surrounding countryside is bursting with wildlife. From the living room you can exit the cottage and follow a small path down to the ground level so that dogs do not need to negotiate the fairly steep steps inside the cottage. Apparently one visitor had complained that the wifi was not working properly so the owners have installed a new system. When we arrived they checked the new system with us and I am pleased to say that it worked perfectly for the whole week. There is no mobile reception within the cottage but you only need to step outside to restore services. A great property with exceptional owners.

      Lovely stay.

The bothy was very homely and the hosts extremely welcoming and helpful. Facilities all very clean and in excellent condition and nicely furnished. We had a lovely time in the area - it is so quiet (no road noise for anyone wondering) and was lovely waking to bird song each morning! The valley in which the property is situated has a lovely path for an evening stroll (though no access to Upton Bishop as the OS map suggests) and we did a number of longer walks in the Wye Valley and wider area (Symonds Yat, Tintern Abbey, Sugar Loaf & Forest of Dean). The owners recommended the Alma at Lintern for food, which was a lovely village pub - though worth calling ahead for food as their kitchen is small! All in all, an excellent holiday and we would happily stay again.
