What our customers say about their holidays

    • Andy - Verified booking

Hello, this weekend was purchased as a present four our friends who had just got married.

The reason we chose the property was because of the hot tub so we were going to use it as a base and socialise in the evenings relaxing in the tub. On arrival the property was very clean and tidy inside (only two coffee saches for four guests? But i guess thats just a nice little extra anyway) . The following morning we went to use the hot before going out but unfortunately the water smelt slightly stagnant and was only 34 degrees (certainly not hot tub temperature). I found test strips for the tub, there was no indication of chlorine or bromine in the water hence it was not set up properly. This was somewhat disappointing as the attraction of the property was the hot tub hence I felt we paid a higher than average price for the area. I phoned the owner (Gary) and explained once we were able to catch up with eachother. Gary was apologetic and put the error down to the company responsible for maintenance. Not a fault of the property but the following evening the neighbours had a loud domestic incident (not really what we wanted when we were trying to treat our friends to a relaxing weekend). I'm sure on other occasions this would be an ideal location for anyone wanting to stay in Torquay, easy walking distance to key locations, but on this occasion it didn't work out for us. There are understandably lots of rules around the hot tub use with a potential fine of £100 if they are breached. It's a shame there wasn't an offer of a £100 refund as the facility wasn't available. I wouldn't choose to stay at the property again as there are better value locations / hotels that would be suitable for similar, if not less money.

We have stayed at a number of Sykes properties but this has to be up there with the best!

The house is a real gem, such a great location for the town of Torquay but also for the surrounding area as well. We walked and used buses most days, only getting in the car to venture further afield a couple of times. There is a shop close by and lots of places to eat in town, we hardly needed to use the kitchen at all! The house is very clean and in excellent condition. The beds were comfy, the bed linen and towels all pristine. We loved the style of decoration and the uncluttered air of the place. The house was plenty big enough for 4 although might feel a bit cramped for 6. The hot tub was brilliant, in a really quirky backdrop with the church right behind it. The owner was most helpful on the one occasion there was a small query re the water levels in the tub. 2 small points that could be improved - a clothes airer would come in handy for wet hot tub towels (I know there was washing line but this was quite short and went across the top of the tub so was a bit compromised). Secondly the shower arm in the ensuite bathroom would not hold the shower head up - ok for a 4ft midget but no good for my 6ft husband!! Minor problems on an otherwise great stay.

      It was a lovely house.

The actual street address isn't as sexy as Babbacombe Hall but the location is really central to get to a number of lovely places, often on foot. The bedrooms are lovely and all well appointed. I doubt the lounge could really accommodate the whole group if the maximum advertised number was present but we were only 10 or 11 and actually tended to congregate evenings in the dining room. The kitchen is well equipped but the ovens and hob were a bit slow and would lack capacity to prepare meals for a full complement. There isn't much preparation space but we managed very well. We had a professional chef for one evening and brought in the BBQ tables for extra prep space. The house was lovely. I find that Sykes is easy to book with but if you have any out of the ordinary requests, the process is deliberately vague for getting answers.

Had a very comfortable stay in this lovely house.

Having the Hot Tub and garden maintained daily meant it was easy to use either whenever we wanted to - and we did. The House had enough equipment for all of us which was great, though a cupboard/space just for storing our food would have been useful. We really enjoyed being so close to the promenade, the Tessier Gardens, the Model village and the shops and having leaflets in the house made it easy to find other places to visit. Having our own parking space was a big relief as we had 3 biggish cars between us and parking is at a premium in seaside towns. I would highly recommend staying here for itself and as a good base for the 'English Riviera'. PS would also recommend the Local History society's free walk round Babbacombe / St Marychurch (every Tuesday in summer) - interesting and informative. Thank you

This house is lovely very well equipped and spotlessly clean we had the pleasure of meeting steph the lady who cleans the house she was so helpful and lovely unlike your lady in the office !!! Would stay here again just be aware the parking if you have 2 cars is a bit of a problem If your crafty enough and park about 500pm you can get away with it till next morning about 900ish the warden is very friendly but he will give you e ticket !! The spaces are limited other than that you have to park in the ness car park which is not a secure car park and was informed that blueriver cottages should pay for this or issue you with a permit !! Other than that it was a lovely holiday !!!
