      Where do I start?

When I was looking though you properties last year with a view to booking somewhere for this September, I was drawn to the look of Sail Loft Annex in your main picture. It looked a nice place to stay. There was access on the flat to the doors which my husband and I needed. At 79 and 83 we find steps difficult these days. I could see there were windows looking out over the Solent and all year I have been looking forward to our holiday. We were disappointed when we went inside to find there was no window at all facing the sea. The owner said that it was the only one of the 7 properties that didn't have one. I said the picture showed a different property. He said he had asked you to take that picture down. What we learnt while we were there was that there were seven properties at The Boathouse Apartments to give them their proper name. The one in your picture is no 4. I could imagine that as being a Sail Loft Annex in a previous life but not the other apartments. Of the seven, numbers 1-4 were facing the sea. I am not sure where no 5 was but 6 and 7 were down the aforesaid steps. I gather no 6 was above us. The apartment itself was all that we needed and was comfortable as was the bed. We have a 6' wide bed at home so obviously found a 4'6" rather narrow and were afraid of falling out at night. Fortunately, we didn't. We feel that you should not only put the correct name in your brochure but also the correct picture of the outside of the apartment as the main picture. We would advise you put that access would be difficult for anyone with a disability or the elderly. My husband had problems getting the items we had brought with us down the steps and back up again at the end of the holiday. If we use your firm again, we will be in touch with you to check that the access is suitable for us and that accommodation is all on the ground floor. An Nead had an upstairs bedroom despite being a bungalow!

Lovely cottage in a perfect location in Yarmouth town centre with all shops and facilities on your doorstep which was perfect for us in our favourite place on the island.

PRO’S Property was really nice inside with comfy furniture in the lounge area and all the modern facilities you would require such as WiFi and tv. Separate dining room from lounge that leads to kitchen which has everything you need and all modern appliances. Beds were comfy and the views from the top bedroom and balcony are fantastic looking at the sea and boats as you look to the right. The owner was helpful sending a welcome pack to us via email in advance and also organised a parking permit for us at their cost which was really appreciated to park nearby as there is no parking at the property. However I would say before 10am and after 6pm we established there is alternative parking nearby for free in the town centre near the Bugle pub as well which is around 50 yards away. CON’S Only downsides found with the property was the low beams in a couple of the bedrooms as you enter them and the top bathroom as my husband hit his head a few times (husband is just under 6 foot). However none of my other party hit their head so I would also put that down to my husbands clumsiness! We also had an older relative with us that did struggle with the stairs a little which although there are only a few steps they are quite narrow and on a bend with difficult located handrails but the rest of us adults and kids found the stairs no problem and there were no accidents thankfully. Overall a lovely weeks stay at a quaint cottage and we were considering to come back next year again (2024) had the week we wanted been available again. However we will certainly consider staying here again for a future holiday to the island if it’s still available.

We love old and historic buildings, so from that viewpoint, this was right up our street.

Great location, slap bang in the centre of Yarmouth. Very handy for the fabulous fish & chips next door! We arrived late on the Friday evening and were given the wrong set of keys by Hardy's. Also, rather reluctantly told that we were 'entitled' to 2 pints of milk. It's not what you say, it's the way....... The house was freezing and didn't seem 'guest ready'. All in all, a rather unwelcoming start. The low beams were a problem right from the get go and my husband nearly knocked himself out on a number of occasions. It was so bad we considered returning home early but we managed to better navigate things as the days went by. The little log burner was gorgeous but sadly very few logs were left for us to burn. Disappointing that we had to pay our own way to supplement the heating, as a few more logs would've gone a long way. I guess we weren't quite prepared for a winter break and assumed (wrongly) that the heating side of things would be taken care of. The week felt like a battle to stay warm as well as stay safe (from the beams). The kitchen was so cold, that we had to put the Aga stove on to help warm the room up, as there was no other mode of heating. In a nutshell, the overall stay was disappointing and I'm sure it would've been quite a different experience in the summer. I think it would take only a small effort to get this lovely cottage up to a winter stay standard, so please don't take my feedback as completely negative. The view from the master bedroom window was wonderful and was a joy to wake up to every morning. We're regulars to Yarmouth, and everyone is so friendly.

Sadly wouldn’t recommend Sykes as a holiday company as they cancelled my booking on the Friday before I was due to arrive on the Monday, hence the last-minute booking of P5 Whitfield.

Sykes were a nightmare to get hold of on the phone and the alternative recommendations they emailed me were in Wales and Scotland, despite P5 Whitfield and others still being available. A stressful time! P5 Whitfield itself was easy to find and there was good communication from the owners in regard to arrival. The house was warm when we checked in which was very welcome. The kitchen was well equipped for basic cooking, although a number of pieces of crockery felt sticky and maybe weren’t completely clean. The accommodation was comfortable enough but did feel a little tired in places - frayed carpets, bed frames coming undone, and the mattresses felt as though they could do with an upgrade. The en-suite shower room was unusable for the first day or so as it was smelling rather unpleasant! The door had to kept closed to prevent the smell from impacting the bedroom too much. I alerted maintenance and they came in to the property on the second day and the smell did improve for a couple of days, but by the final evening it had reverted to being rather pungent again. The kitchen sink was also very slow to drain as the week went on and also began to smell a little, so potentially there is a bigger drains issue going on. All in all though this was a convenient place to stay for exploring the island and especially easy to walk into Yarmouth. The Needles are close by, as are lovely walks and views around the south of the island. We also hired bikes and enjoyed a gentle cycle with lots of wildlife spots, including birds of prey. An enjoyable week overall and I would stay again.

We refused to stay in the accommodation, had to seek an alternative.

It wasn't the studio apartment as advertised in the picture above very misleading. We were shown to a pokey room at the back of the building which smelt damp and we were lead down some steps to a narrow passageway where a man was rubbing down paintwork, approx. 3ft wide and from the accommodation you were looking at a brick wall and the bottom of park cars at head height NOT WHAT I WOULD CALL SEA VIEW. We were both looking forward to this holiday week after a upsetting year, Tim my husband had a heart attack followed by a triple by pass and we felt gutted when we arrived to see what we were expected to stay in for a week. John the owner offered us a room to the side of the building which wasn't ready which also was a state worn carpets smelly and the shower was not very clean although he said it had been used for storage over the winter, and then said if we wanted to use that room it would take a while to clean it up and we would have to return later. To top it all off he told us we would have to pay for the electric as there was a meter, he offered to put Five pounds in it to start us off! He did say that Sykes Cottages keep putting on the Sea View Beach photos and people like us assume they will be getting those but not so. I could go on but just want a full refund.
