Sadly wouldn’t recommend Sykes as a holiday company as they cancelled my booking on the Friday before I was due to arrive on the Monday, hence the last-minute booking of P5 Whitfield.

Sykes were a nightmare to get hold of on the phone and the alternative recommendations they emailed me were in Wales and Scotland, despite P5 Whitfield and others still being available. A stressful time! P5 Whitfield itself was easy to find and there was good communication from the owners in regard to arrival. The house was warm when we checked in which was very welcome. The kitchen was well equipped for basic cooking, although a number of pieces of crockery felt sticky and maybe weren’t completely clean. The accommodation was comfortable enough but did feel a little tired in places - frayed carpets, bed frames coming undone, and the mattresses felt as though they could do with an upgrade. The en-suite shower room was unusable for the first day or so as it was smelling rather unpleasant! The door had to kept closed to prevent the smell from impacting the bedroom too much. I alerted maintenance and they came in to the property on the second day and the smell did improve for a couple of days, but by the final evening it had reverted to being rather pungent again. The kitchen sink was also very slow to drain as the week went on and also began to smell a little, so potentially there is a bigger drains issue going on. All in all though this was a convenient place to stay for exploring the island and especially easy to walk into Yarmouth. The Needles are close by, as are lovely walks and views around the south of the island. We also hired bikes and enjoyed a gentle cycle with lots of wildlife spots, including birds of prey. An enjoyable week overall and I would stay again.

We had a fantastic stay here.

Spotlessly clean and very comfortable. The views are amazing and great for birdwatchers. We saw/heard about 15 species from the back garden and would probably be great for winter birdwatching too as this is a wetland area. You have a completely separate raised section of the family's larger garden and apart from their older son occasionally riding his bike we never saw anyone and there was virtually no noise from the other properties. The road at the front is barely noticeable in the back garden and quietens right down at night. The property is just steps away from The Solent across the road where you can walk along the sea wall into pretty Yarmouth. There are lots of footpaths near the property and we did a walk that runs parallel at a distance from the property around the woods. This leads you to the edge of Yarmouth and the lovely Off The Rails cafe and then along the estuary to the Red Lion at Freshwater. We also found the dinosaur footprint casts at Hanover Point. We would love to come back again to this area and the property.

Windy Ridge is a perfect home away from home and an ideal location.

Yarmouth itself is only a 15 minute walk from the house and is a beautiful place. It was our second time staying in Yarmouth, we enjoyed it so much last year that we booked for this year while still there! The Wheatsheaf is a wonderful pub and we ate there 3 times. The food is excellent, service very good, friendly staff and also has a nice outdoor space. Gossips Cafe is also definitely worth a visit, good food and a beautiful view. Inez was an excellent host, she came to greet us on our arrival day to let us know she was on hand, she came to make sure we'd had a good stay on the day we left and was available to answer any questions during the week. The road is busy and if you're in the in the upstairs bedroom there is quite a bit of traffic noise. However, the gorgeous view more than makes up for it and wouldn't stop us booking again. Lovely little garden area at the back too, also with a stunning view. Thank you for a wonderful stay.

We had a fabulous stay at Windy Ridge Cottage.

It’s a wonderful home in a lovely location. I’ve already shared the details with friends as I have absolutely no hesitation in recommending it. The best cottage we’ve ever stayed in. The owners (and their children) were lovely and welcoming and provided an amazing “starter pack” of food. I brought so much from home that was unnecessary (washing up liquid, sponge, tea towels, tea, coffee etc). The dishwasher and washing machine weren’t mentioned in the listing but were very welcome additions. Not the most commercial of parts of the Isle of Wight, which was nice, but nothing is too far to travel to. Osborne House was the farthest we went and it was only 35 mins away. Highly recommended!
