What our customers say about their holidays

    • Ms Vose - Verified booking

This property is ideal in its central location, cleanliness and mostly satisfactory equipment and 2 parking spaces. The bedrooms and bathrooms are great. The downstairs is tight, the kitchen/dining/ living area is confined, you have to move the couch to use the dining chairs, move a dining chair to access the dishwasher and there isn’t really much space to bring in a child’s buggy without blocking the narrow hall. There is lots to recommend in this house but l feel the unconventional check out time and instructions re stripping beds etc is a disadvantage especially since there weren’t any cleaners waiting to enter at 9.30. I would recommend for adults with teenagers rather than younger children. There wasn’t an enclosed yard for the dog which l assumed there would be but there’s plenty of places to walk a dog.

We spent a week at Porthole Cottage which is the perfect base to explore Whitby and the surrounding Yorkshire coast and moors. The cottage is very well equipped especially the kitchen which has everything you could need if you choose to cater for yourself but equally the cottage is within short walking distance of lots of fabulous restaurants, cafes and pubs if you prefer to eat out. The location is perfect for exploring Whitby as it is very centrally located. It is situated in Clark's yard but it is quiet despite being just off Church Street which with lots of sea air and comfy beds ensures you get an excellent night's sleep. We hope to return to Porthole Cottage and would highly recommend booking a stay here.

    • Mrs O'Key - Verified booking

The property was in a great location & the two parking spaces were an added bonus. Only grumbles are that there is only comfy seating for 5 people when the property is for 6, and the single beds are only suitable for children, very uncomfortable, although all the rooms were spacious and had plenty of storage space. Towels, it does say these are included which they are, however I would recommend taking your own as only one small, thin bath towel was provided per person. Pots and pans could do with replacing and the washing machine was very noisy. Other than that we had a great time.

Beautiful barn conversion in a lovely location. Very quiet on a single track country lane with only the very occasional passing car or tractor. Large, secure garden with loads of space ( and long grass ) for our dog to explore. Caution if you have a small terrier as there are rabbit holes in long grass a dog could go down. The cottage is well equipped with a comfortable lounge area and beds. Two excellent pubs within walking distance and numerous walks, both along the valley and on the fells. Our car didn’t move all week! Highly recommended

Porthole Cottage is a little gem. It is hidden away in a beautiful quiet yard but is only minutes from the centre of Whitby. The very best of both worlds --- and that is hard to find. We have stayed there many time with previous owners, but the current owner has made superb improvements. Every where is spotlessly clean, has beautiful quality bedding and towels and has nurtured the charm of the old building. We love it, and would highly recommend. We will be back soon. Thank you.
