What our customers say about their holidays

    • Deborah - Verified booking

I hadn't wanted to post this review and have been waiting since 28th Dec 2024 after messaging again 3rd Jan and 10th Jan for a response from Sykes in hope of getting some reply.

We arrived at the property at 5.30pm on Christmas Eve, the property was cold on arrival, 2 of the thermostats were hanging off the radiators so no way of controlling the temperatures on those, on putting the tv on there wasn't any signal, and considering we wanted to spend Christmas relaxing watching tv it wasn't a good start. We phoned the owner who couldn't really help apart from phoning the site warden. The warden (Paul) came and spent a couple of hours but couldn't get it working, I felt bad for him after all it was late Christmas Eve, he said he would come back on Christmas morning. I decided to get everything ready for out Christmas dinner, the cooker was an absolute disgrace and everything was thick with grease, worse still no cleaning products to clean it with apart from wipes which I had bought. No roasting tin, baking trays full of food and grease and the cutlery in the drawer wasn't clean. I put everything in the dishwasher. The cupboards with the pans next to the cooker were also thick with grease. Armchair could do with a good clean. I know lots can be due to previous guests, however everything should be checked before guests arrive. It's not how we want to be spending Christmas Eve. Christmas morning Paul came again and had a mess about with the tv and discovered that the aerial box outside was swinging in the wind and full of rust and water, so he spent a while trying to get it sorted for us and eventually late lunchtime he did a temporary fix, it was a little hit and miss and for much of the time the signal would just drop which could've been weather related or the fact the aerial did need replacing/repairing. We didn't pay cheap for the lodge over the festive period and apart from us bringing our own things for Christmas there was no welcome pack or sign of Christmas in there and after reading previous reviews we were so looking forward to a relaxing Christmas, the start of the break was extremely stressful, I know having tv for some isn't the be all and end all but for us with our busy lives all we wanted to do was relax and watch it and it wasn't always possible. It's a shame as the place just needs a little tlc. Beds were comfy and the location was fantastic.

      Cosy, well equipped Lodge.

We recently spent four nights here, it's a lovely little lodge for a break away. There is a welcome pack of bread, milk, butter and orange juice which was lovely. Take your own tea, coffee and sugar, we hadn't realised so soon had to go back out. We found it quite difficult to find in the dark. The what3words took us somewhere down the road, the what3wordsfor the start of driveway is ///luxury.weekend.static A doormat would be ideal, when the dogs are in and out the floors are soon getting wet and grubby. Also a spray or flash mop or something would have been great to be able to quickly go over the floors, as again, with the dogs in and out we had to keep using wipes which was a pain. We didn't actually meet the owners which we thought a little odd but I guess some may appreciate it? Overall we had a really nice break, the kids loved it and loved seeing the sheep and horses just outside and we found plenty to do in the area

      Best Holiday ever!

!! We stayed in one of the lodges for 2 weeks and we couldn't believe the kindness and hospitality of the owners. They made a lovely and memorable holiday for us with all the care and love they put into making guests happy. The lodge was really comfortable, a great sofa and an orthopaedic mattress. It was also very clean. It's a very peacefully and quiet area, perfect for an "away from the city-stress holiday". There are plenty of places to visit and also Glasgow and Edinburgh are just one hour train away. We enjoyed every minute there and had a very relaxing time on the lodge and walking around the fields, towns and forest. The sights are stunning from the lodge. There is a very comfortable garden with BBQ facing the fields, perfect to enjoy the sunset while having a nice dinner. It's worth every penny! We are definitely coming back. Thank you so much for such a lovely experience!

Absolutely superb property in a fabulous location. The Moorings had everything you could ever wish for in a self catering property. The quality and quantity of the soft furnishings, crockery pans etc was outstanding. What the property didn’t have you didn’t need because it had everything, including logs for the fire, toys and games for the kids/adults. It was exceptionally clean and the views from the property overlooking the beach, were fantastic . Watching the waves crash over the rocks on one of the days we couldn’t go out was amazing. Unusually for me, I have nothing negative to say about this property as everything was perfect. I would definitely recommend and will definitely be back. Thank you to the McConchie family for a wonderful stay.

Silver Lodge is of a very high standard. Every essential item readily available in the kitchen and in general throughout the property. And amazingly every item in full working order. This was our 2nd visit to Silver Lodge. It is so central to where we go to during our holidays in Creetown. As we originate from the area and most of our relatives live relatively close by. Making it easy to visit them. And to visit all the many sights in the area. Its also a joy to sit out in the lovely garden with a glass of wine, or two. So quiet & peaceful. We will return!!!
