To say that our stay was special would be an understatement. The cottage at Blackaton Manor Farm was idyllic — beautifully restored, perfectly equipped, and surrounded by the kind of landscape that feeds the soul. We stayed for two weeks and could easily have stayed longer.Sue and Hugh were the warmest and most attentive hosts, striking that perfect balance between friendly presence and gentle privacy. Their dogs — Benny, Taro, and Misty — completely stole our hearts. It was a joy to wake up to the sound of the countryside, pour a coffee, and say good morning to the four cows grazing just behind the cottage. The location was ideal: just minutes from Widecombe-in-the-Moor, where we enjoyed breakfasts at Café on the Green and dinners at The Rugglestone, The Old Inn, and Warren House. We were also perfectly situated to explore all the nearby tors — Haytor Rocks, Grimspound, Hound Tor, and Saddle Tor — all within a very short drive. You are truly in the middle of everything. The cottage had excellent Wi-Fi (even for video calls), a fully stocked kitchen, a great washing machine, and the Aga kept everything cozy — even drying our clothes within hours. We loved making fires each evening, and there was always plenty of wood.Peaceful, private, and absolutely rejuvenating, this wasn’t just a place to stay — it was an experience. The photos don’t begin to do it justice. We left restored, grateful, and already dreaming of returning.

Lovely stay in a farm but you have to be prepared to drive everywhere as you are right on the moors. The owners were very friendly and helpful and we loved it!

We couldnt have found a better place to stay! Beech Tree cottage is in an ideal location for exploring the Dartmoor, especially the eastern part. Very close to beautiful Widecombe in the Moor and Princetown, but also with wonderful spots and paths in the nearest vicinity. The cottage is extremely cozy and you can experience being on a working farm. Sue is a fantastic host who welcomed us warmly and was always responsive. The same goes for her husband and her brother - just wonderful people. And not to forget their two lovely Labrador dogs. We can recommend Beechtree Cottage without hesitation.
