What our customers say about their holidays

    • Shaun - Verified booking

Pros Very comfortable and well thought out house.

Well equipped throughout and in the Kitchen there is nearly every aid. Location in a small quiet village but with a pub and good shop within easy walking distance. Different colour towels for each person so no chance of mix up. Hooks on the back of every door for practicality WiFi that works The hot water failed and was fixed very rapidly. Eventually one of our boys, 41 years old French admitted to going through the English menus on the the thermostat and possibly causing the problem. Cons These are very minor cons Close to road. One wall and several windows are directly on to the road. Not really a problem as 1. The sound insulation is very good. 2. Theere are only about 5 cars per hour and it is not a problem. 3. There are only about 2 people per hour who pass on foot. Access to the village is by some single track road so passing can be interesting. Again traffic is very light so the chances of encountering another vehicule is low. Only one medium sized frying pan. If you are cooking eggs for 6 people it has to be done in batches.

The owners of the Old Forge had anticipated all our needs and much much more.

..A beautiful cottage with a delightful courtyard (we had all our meals out of doors as the sun shone for us...)and, inside, the furniture together with excellent china, glass and cutlery more than met all our expectations, down to tasteful stylish furnishings and lovely pottery on the windowsills with the feeling everywhere of being in a centuries-old much-loved home. The kitchen was well equipped which suited us as we spent the days out delighting in Haytor, Widecombe, Parke, Hound Tor and many other local places, on the way exploring whole fields of bluebells and buttercups and delighting in the ponies and sheep who wandered not only on the moors but also in the road...and then we came back to cook in the evening, eating either in the courtyard or in the dining room which had a large pine sideboard table and chairs, interesting paintings and wall art and a wooden floor. The village shop, open 12 hours a day, and run by volunteers, stocked a very wide range of comestibles including local cheeses jams and chutneys. Everything was perfect.

Took my family to this lovely cottage.

I've only marked down on a couple of things. The listing should say when pool is available before you get there. My 2 grandsons love being in water unfortunately we did not use it as much as we would have liked to as it was a bit to cool for the 2 year old. We did ask if it could go up a degree and we're willing to pay extra..but we're told it was set to 29.something summer would have been great but winter needed to be at least 30.5 for toddler. As it was in an unheated building the pool dropped temperature quite quickly. The pool handles were very slippery when wet, I have a lovely bruise where I slipped and banged my leg on steps. Upstairs towel rails weren't heated...they were on but not heating up. Some mattresses were very firm. Again these are not major things and some are personal observations, but would've made our holiday a 10 out of 10. All I all we had a lovely holiday enjoyed the cottage, the birds in the garden and the area. Thank you to our fab hosts.

Post Box Cottage, a beautiful, quirky and cosy cottage in the depths of Dartmoor, which means narrow roads, beautiful walks and stunning scenery close by.

The cottage is well equipped and welcoming, the kitchen serves its purpose with everything close to hand, the dining area is tastefully furnished and the lounge perfect, no doubt in the colder months the log burner will help provide that little extra touch of cosiness. When you climb the steep curved staircase you are greeted by a modern and spacious landing converted to a luxurious bathroom, there is a large shower and inviting bath. The adjacent bedroom is spacious and the king size bed comfortable. We were the first guests at Post Box cottage and enjoyed our stay, our two four legged friends loved the long walks but struggled with the short late evening dark walk for convenience purposes. There is courtyard parking adjacent to the cottage but access is difficult and quite steep particularly if you have a low car. There is additional parking close by but this can also be a challenge. Thank you John, We look forward to returning to this happy place, IMYHC

The old forge cottage was stunning.

It was perfectly quaint with all the modern necessities. We were comfortable and felt at home. Mikes communication was welcome and not intrusive. Recycling seemed to be an issue for others but it was very easy to follow. I adored the home and would love to go back. If I had one small piece of feedback I would say the stairs need a fitted runner for grip. I stayed on the ground floor since my mum and dad could not join us. If I had been upstairs, as originally planned, I would have struggled with the stairs. Polished wood and rope banister would have been a disaster for me. But honestly, that’s just a sideline. The place was beautifully maintained and the perfect mix of old and new. The wooden stools and the collection of mini pillows were adorable! Thank you
