What our customers say about their holidays

This is our 7th or 8th stay at The old Stable.

We love the surroundings. Peace and quiet. Our dogs enjoy the walks and the garden. The bird song is amazing and watching the bird of prey just chilling on the garden fence was awesome. Some may find the track to the house a bit daunting due to being bumpy and sometimes rather muddy because of the cows. Just drive steadily and all is fine. The owners are helpful but defiantly not intrusive. Flowers, biscuits and milk always to be found on arrival, although our flowers were overlooked and we were left with the old ones, which I’m sure was an oversight. We left fresh ones ,given to us by friends. The bed and bedding is first class. Always so cosy and soft. Soft towels too that actually dry you! A small en-suite but serviceable . The kitchen is equipped with everything you need with a new oven which was great. The house is an upside down house making use of the wonderful views from the upstairs French windows to the Juliette balcony . We never tire of looking out. My wife finds the stairs very difficult with her arthritis, and also getting out of the shower in a small area, but she is determined to return, hopefully next year when fingers crossed ,there will be a new lounge furniture. Our biggest dislike which hasn’t changed is the sofa. We have mentioned it before. It is so uncomfortable with hard lumps and bumps which spoils our evenings. We even thought of bringing in a garden chair. ! It unfortunately gives us terrible back aches, and on many occasion prompted an early night , when we would have preferred not to. Overall we love staying at the stable. So many places to visit nearby. Unfortunately due to our 16.5 yr old golden cocker who had doggie dementia, we were unable to go anywhere as she suffers great anxiety in the car. {We had to sedate her for the journey to and from } however she appeared to recognise where she was and enjoyed ,along with our younger dog all the outside had to offer which is fabulous. We recommend The old Stable . Lovely walks up the track or in the little woods. Sit in the garden area watching nature ,Alfresco dining.Visit the dairy farm ,and all the local coastal towns which The old Stable is wonderfully situated for.

      We really enjoyed our stay.

The accommodation is beautifully appointed, very clean and comfortable and there is everything you need for a great stay. The Old Stables is in a very peaceful setting with lovely views over the countryside. The owners were very helpful and the welcome pack and fresh flowers were much appreciated. The track leading to the accommodation would be challenging if you had a car with low ground clearance but as we have an SUV it gave us no problems and was all part of having a peaceful country holiday surrounded by fields and trees. The upside down design of the property is cleaver and the open plan living space upstairs works really well. We really appreciated have a good television and efficient Wi-Fi (so often lacking in holiday accommodation) which made for very relaxing evenings. Sidbury is a nice village, very close, with shop etc and we could easily get to the coast and there is plenty to do and see, even in chilly February. Also a number of places to eat within a reasonable distance (be aware that many close early in winter so we ate out at lunchtime). The only improvement would be to sort out the rather soggy sofa. As there were only 2 of us we could get very comfortable but if there had been 4 of us staying that would not work so well. We had a lovely break at The Old Stables and hope to return. Thank you

Please pass on to the owners that we would have appreciated a welcome handbook.

We struggled to understand how the cooker worked and this caused frustrations. We did contact the owner in the end. Also there needs to be instructions on how to use the chair lift. We were lucky and did not need to use it but again this would have been useful to other guests. The single beds need to be changed to bigger singles. And the one by the small window needs to be replaced as it was wooden and creaked with every slight turn or movement. There are needs to be a shower upstairs above the bath. Four people using one shower which was downstairs is not sufficient. The downstairs shower is a wet room which does not drain very well, hence when you want to use the toilet after someone has used the shower your clothes (when wearing towers) get wet!. The overhead shower head needs to be changed to a round one. we even had to clean all the animal hair off the cushions before we could sit down and clean the outside furniture of green algi before we could sit down. Just small things that would really have made a difference.

We spent a lovely week in the old stable.

It was spotlessly clean, well equipped with every home comfort you could wish for and we appreciated the welcome gifts of flowers, milk and biscuits. We had read previous reviews that mentioned that the access road might present problems for cars that were low, but as we had an ordinary car we didn’t think that it would be an issue for us. We expected all the potholes once we drove onto the rough track from the road, but there is one particular section just as the track divides (you go left for access to the old stable and another residence) that really could do with being filled in to make it easier to negotiate the turn - I dreaded the ‘clunk/scrape’ to the bottom of my car every time I drove in or out of this particular section. The old stable is in a beautiful peaceful setting, and within easy reach of all the areas that this area of the country is famous for. We absolutely loved the donkey sanctuary, which is just a few miles away.

The farm use a biomass boiler and as they both work they can only prime it 2 a day so if you come home early there may not be a lot of heat in property only what is retained in the building.

This is fine but maybe logs and kindling should be outside the front door on a daily basis so that clients can light the wood burner and not be chilly. It was quite dusty where you wouldn’t clean everyday and if you were asthmatic etc it cld cause an issue. I understand that it is rural living but having enough lights to shave and put makeup on were lacking. We did have a lovely time and it was nice to chill away from work and busy life. And one last thing there was no WiFi which meant we spent money on data from our provider bit annoying. I understand that the owners are trying to sort it as I write this. These are smallish things and in no way spoilt our break but need to be said so that improvements can be made J Adlam
