Wisteria Cottage in Exmouth, Devon, is praised for its cleanliness, welcoming hosts, and thoughtful touches such as welcome packs. While some guests mention traffic noise and the absence of a freezer, the cottage's comfort, cleanliness, and convenient location for exploring the area and accessing public transport are consistently highlighted. The property is well-suited for couples seeking a cosy and well-equipped base for their holiday.
Guests consistently commend the cottage for its exceptional cleanliness, describing it as spotless and well-maintained. This aspect is frequently mentioned, indicating a high standard of cleanliness throughout the property.
The location is appreciated for its proximity to Exmouth, the Exe estuary, and public transport, making it an excellent base for exploring. However, some guests note the presence of traffic noise due to the cottage being on a main road, which slightly impacts the overall location score.
The majority of guests find the cottage comfortable and cosy, suitable for couples. A few guests mention the mattress and the presence of road noise, but these are not dominant concerns, and the overall comfort level is rated highly.
Facilities are generally well-received, with the cottage being well-equipped for guests' needs. However, several reviews point out the lack of a freezer and tumble dryer, and a few mention the small TV, which suggests room for improvement in this category.
Guests frequently express gratitude for the thoughtful welcome packs provided by the hosts, which include items such as wine, biscuits, and flowers. While these gestures are highly appreciated, it is important to note that such gifts are a courtesy and may not be guaranteed for every stay.
Wisteria Cottage is a light, bright and comfortable property in the grounds of the owners’ home, between Lympstone and Exmouth, an excellent base for a wide range of holiday adventures. The ground floor is open plan, with a kitchen, dining table, and comfortable sitting area. Sliding doors lead out to a decked patio area with table and chairs - ideal for morning coffee. On the first floor, reached by fairly steep stairs, there is a bedroom with double bed, and an en-suite shower room with toilet and hand-wash basin. Views of the Exe estuary and beyond can be seen from the upstairs window.
Outside there is a bicycle rack, attached to the cottage wall, where cycles may be stored overnight. Wisteria Cottage is accessed via a shared gravel drive and has parking for 2 cars. There are bus stops 100 yards from the property for frequent buses into Exmouth (a 5-minute ride) and to Exeter (a 30-minute ride). For cyclists and walkers the South West Coast Path and the National Cycle Network Route 2 are only a few minutes away. The Exe Trail is an easy walk/ride via Topsham towards Exeter city. Bird watchers, and those interested in nature, will find the Exe Estuary Nature Reserve nearby and a trip to Dawlish Warren on the other side of the Estuary is highly recommended.
Within 20 minutes’ walk there are two National Trust properties, Halsdon Farm and the unusual ‘A la Ronde’ house. For eating out there is a selection of pubs and restaurants in Exmouth as well as Lympstone and Topsham. The River Exe Café involves a boat trip to the middle of the estuary and is very popular!
On the eastern bank of the estuary of the River Exe, Exmouth has everything required by the visitor for a relaxing break. We also had a visit to see how things are from the owners, which was a great touch. For a couple, it was perfect away from home. Highly recommended.
