Clooncorraun Cottage is a property set in beautiful surroundings, offering a peaceful retreat with a good outdoor eating spot and sun traps. It is centrally located for exploring Mayo and beyond, with a village nearby for conveniences. The property boasts a lovely wood burner and a wealth of books and detailed maps for guests to enjoy.
Multiple reviews mention a lack of cleanliness, with reports of dirt, cobwebs, and a general need for a deep clean. This suggests significant room for improvement in this area.
The cottage is praised for its beautiful and central location, ideal for quiet retreats and as a base for exploring the area, with a nearby village adding convenience.
Comfort is compromised by reports of broken furniture and beds, as well as a lack of seating for all guests. However, the presence of a wood burner and reading materials adds some comfort.
Facilities are noted to be lacking, with broken lamps, taps, and toilet flush mentioned. The absence of a shower and functional bathroom facilities are also highlighted.
While the provision of books and maps is appreciated, there is no mention of gifts or additional thoughtful touches that would warrant a score in this category.
Ballinrobe 2 miles. This idyllic, traditional stone cottage sits in a pretty and secluded location off a quiet winding lane close to Lough Mask, 2 miles from the town of Ballinrobe. This Ballinrobe cottage has been sympathetically restored using some reclaimed materials, and retains many traditional, character features throughout. The sitting room features an original 'Hag Bed' alcove, dating back to when the cottage was built; traditionally, these alcoves were built next to the fire for the woman of the house to keep warm. The exposed stone walls in the sitting room and first floor bedrooms, and the Belfast sink in the kitchen, give a rustic and authentic feel to this Ballinrobe holiday cottage, providing a warm, comfortable and unique hideaway. The enclosed garden with feature stone circle, fruit trees and herbs and an ancient covered dry well is a special place to sit out and relax, while pine martens can be seen in the surrounding countryside. This Ballinrobe cottage is just half a mile from Cuslough Bay on Lough Mask, while Cahir Pier, a popular sandy swimming spot, is great for a dip in the lough on a hot summer's day. A lovely, cosy, old Ballinrobe cottage to unwind in at any time of the year.
Ballinrobe is a market town on the River Robe in County Mayo, close to Lough Mask, Lough Carra and Lough Corrib. Geographically, it is ideally located as a touring base for those wishing to explore Galway, Mayo and west Ireland. Dating back to the 1300s, Ballinrobe is believed to be the oldest town in South Mayo, and is surrounded by many features of archaeological, architectural, historic and ecological interest. Ballinrobe is known as the lake angling centre of the west, and with 60,000 acres of lough fishing, and miles of river fishing close by, it is easy to see why. For day trips, the stunning Mayo coastline can be easily reached in half an hour, and a visit to the world-famous Connemara National Park, with its breathtaking walks and amazing scenery, makes for an unforgettable day trip.

But the cottage is below average. The house is in need of renovation in some places. The lamps in the livingroom did not work, as did one of the taps in the bathroom and the toilet flush. The mattresses, beds, sofas and carpets are in need of replacement. Paint on the indoor walls wouldn't hurt either. The housekeeper Jen is nice and helpful, as well as the provided maps and literature about the surroundings.

The location is quite central and we ventured around from there. One little annoyance was the automatic light in the seating area. This should have a sensor to stay off on the daytime. In the end of our stay the light did not switch off. The wonderful lady taking care of the house (Jen) was very helpful und nice to us. Great plus: the enormous amount of books to read and the detailed maps (OSI, 1:50.000) of the whole region.

It is dirty damp and dingy. There are ants in the downstairs bedroom where my son stayed, and the bed is broken. The bath is very shallow and directly under an ultra low sloping ceiling. We all came home early, to get a proper bath/shower. The lounge/dining area does not seat 5 people. The kitchen smells bad, and the cupboards are full of cobwebs. There is no BBQ as advertised, and the grass in the garden area is 2 foot long. The whole place needs a deep clean and a full makeover. I have been using Sykes cottages for 25 years and we have never been so unhappy with a property. It really isn't worth the money they are charging. I suggest somebody from your company goes and inspects this property properly. I dont want you to publish my feedback, I just want you to take some action. Many thanks for your co-operation in this matter.
