About this property

Oughterard 1.5 miles. A cosy little stone detached cottage, close to the town of Oughterard in world-famous County Galway. Set in a wooded area and with exposed stone walls and wooden beams, this cottage will make an excellent retreat for those who want to escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life. All on the ground floor, the cottage offers two comfortable bedrooms alongside an adequate kitchen where you can rustle up a tasty meal, after which why not retreat to the traditionally-furnished sitting room, complete with a solid fuel stove and exposed beams? You can even take your evening meal outside to the patio area and enjoy the fresh Irish air, or better yet fire up the BBQ and enjoy the sun with a cold drink in your hand. Take your time to explore the woodland garden that surrounds the house and spot the local wildlife. Oughterard is close at hand with plenty of local shops that will tend to your basic needs and traditional pubs for you to sample. There’s also a golf course nearby and Lough Corrib is great for those who fancy a bit of relaxing fishing. Travel further afield and visit the vibrant city of Galway, or explore the Connemara National Park and take in some spectacular scenery. This charming cottage will provide a wonderful base for your Irish adventure.

The traditional village of Oughterard is found in the west of Ireland on the shores of Lough Corrib, at the start of the Connemara Mountain range and close to the famous Western Way. Home to the Oughterard 18-hole championship golf course, Derroura Mountain Bike Trail and Aughnanure Castle, there are lots of things to see and do, and located next to Lough Corrib, Oughterard is great for lovers of fishing. Just a short drive away in Roscahil is the pretty Brigit's Garden; with four main gardens and places to play, sit and relax, this is a great day out for all the family.

Lots of little woodland walks and ideal for anyone with mobility problems. There is an amazing collection of birds to see, no doubt attracted here by multiple bird feeders. The house is a wonderful cottage with beautiful stone walls and old world features. Colleen and Raymond are the best of hosts and it’s great that they share their cottage with us along with their home made jam and soap. The cottage is ideally located between Moycullen (SuperValu is a fantastic supermarket with a massive choice for everyone) and Oughterard (beautiful piers on the coast of Lough Corrib - boat tours on Wednesdays and Fridays) Go for it since we will again as soon as possible

Set in its own large wooded garden ,it is a haven for wildlife, and very quiet both day and night. A very warm welcome from our hosts Colleen and Raymond with freshly made jam. Very good selection of local maps and guides for walks.
