Gortagown Cottage is praised for its peaceful, rural setting with stunning views and wildlife, offering a cosy and authentic experience. The spacious bedrooms and well-equipped kitchen are appreciated, as is the helpfulness of the owner. Some guests noted issues with cleanliness, mustiness, and maintenance, but the overall sentiment is positive, with the cottage's charm and location being the highlights.
Reviews are mixed regarding cleanliness. Some guests found the cottage spotless, while others reported it as dirty and musty, with particular dissatisfaction with the bathroom and kitchen appliances. The variance in experiences suggests room for improvement.
The cottage's location is highly praised for its beauty and tranquillity, offering a remote setting ideal for exploring County Kerry. The views and proximity to local attractions like the Ring of Kerry are noted positives. However, the access lane's condition and the property's remoteness slightly affected the score.
Guests find the bedrooms cosy and the main living space comfortable, with a good view and a cosy fireplace. However, some guests mentioned issues with mustiness, especially when rooms are cold, and the second lounge's comfort was criticised, affecting the overall comfort score.
The cottage is equipped with quality appliances and offers solid mobile coverage, which guests appreciated. However, there are concerns about maintenance, such as the musty smell, limited sockets, and the condition of some furniture. The presence of a radio and the ability to stream video content were positives.
While some guests mentioned the owner's helpfulness and provision of extra wood for the fire, there is no consistent mention of gifts or special touches that would indicate a standard of thoughtfulness. Therefore, this category cannot be scored.

. the cottage provided all and made our stay very special and our memory of Irish life .. it gave us a feeling like we lived in Ireland and with the real Irish people not just tourism as that is what we wanted to feel like as this cottage gives you the true feeling of Irish life . Enclosed inland a bit with a nice little fireplace was very charming ..the extra room downstairs adds to the rustic feel of Ireland ⦠Located in the ring of Kerry we could choose which direction we wanted to visit the surrounding towns .. Charlie the host was so helpful with ideas and welcomed us with a warm lit fire .. such a big blessing for us. The cottage was an answered prayer for our holy well pilgrimage time there .. As Australians our ancestries once lived here in Ireland. So this cottage was a great place to imagine what it was kind of like ⦠If youâre looking for something rustic , simple with an Irish feel this is the place to go visit ..we loved it and recommend it for the Irish sweetness and uniqueness it offers . We wonât forget this one ..

Very friendly, he had lots of ideas what we could do in the surrounding. We had a flat tire and he even offered us to drive the broke tire to the next town. Thanks a lot Charlie! The location is very remote and still good for exploring the surrounding area. The house has a lovely view. The beds are not the most comfortable, but we found everything that we needed. Charlie also supplied us with some firewood. The fire in the oven was on every night and will be the thing that we will miss the most.
