Casa Coltelleria is located on the fabulous island of Ischia, in the Bay of Naples. Not only is the villa a pleasure to relax in, but its location also makes exploring the area easy too. Forio is the nearest town and is only a 10-minute drive away, where you will find supermarkets, shops, cafés and trattorias, all within a picturesque setting by the sea.
Just 15 minutes away by car is Panza, home of Casa D’Ambra, the most famous vineyard in Ischia. The vineyard has been run by the D’Ambra family since the 1800s and welcomes visitors for tours and tastings. You can also take the hiking trail from the village to Monte di Panza, for a short yet stunning walk with gorgeous panoramic vistas.
Only around 10 minutes away in the car is Citara Beach, a bathing spot renowned for its beauty as well as its proximity to Poseidon Gardens, Europe’s largest spa - a haven for anyone seeking a therapeutic session in the resort’s hot springs!
The island of Ischia is lauded even among Italians for its wonderful produce. Dotted with small village gardens that produce the best tasting ingredients, sample regional specialties such as eggplant parmigiana, migliaccio sweet black pudding, rustic soups made with rare Zampognaro beans and, most famously, hot spring cooked chicken. Foodies will be sure to encounter both the unfamiliar and the delicious here, making it just one more reason to fall in love with Ischia and all its charms.
Follow an abundantly green road through the Ischia landscape to arrive at the villa, where you will immediately be struck by the beauty of its setting. Its huge terrace overlooks a brilliant blue ocean, framed by exotic plants and shrubs, whilst inside you will be greeted by a fresh and simple décor finished in typical island style.
Just a 5-minute drive away, or 15 minutes on foot along the road if you prefer, is a bakery, supermarket and restaurant, and the closest beach is also a similar distance away. Alternatively, just 10 minutes from the villa by car is the town of Forio. Despite being surrounded by vineyards and green countryside, Forio is a convenient and busy hub that offers sights such as the Torrione Watchtower, an ancient landmark used as a lookout to defend against pirates in days gone by. If you have a head for heights, you can climb the tower to check out the view from the top! Poseidon Gardens Thermal Park is also a big draw to Forio, being the largest spa in Europe and featuring volcanic hot springs of different temperatures. Within Forio’s outer limits is the lovely village of Panza. This rustic gem has gift shops, cafés and boutiques aplenty, making it a great destination for a leisurely day out.
History lovers will appreciate a visit to Villa Arbusto Museum in Lacco Ameno, less than 5 minutes’ drive from the villa. The museum has many archaeological finds within its collection, including an 8th century piece of Greek pottery with one of the earliest known references to Homer’s Iliad inscribed on it, making it the prize of the island. As with all museums, do check opening times before you go.
For shopping, dining, beaches, boat tours and so much more, head to Ischia Porto, the island’s main port town. As a destination for architectural sights and cultural delights it is also bound to please – why not visit the quaint Gesu Buon Pastore Church, or peruse the small yet well-stocked antique shops to sigh over some seriously covetable collectibles.
