Guests say

Hunters Lodge in Belper is a well-received cottage with an open-plan layout, ideal for socialising. Guests praise the hot tub, the high standard of decor, and the well-equipped kitchen. The enclosed garden is appreciated by those with children and pets. The location offers beautiful countryside and walks, though the access track is noted as bumpy. Some guests suggest room for improvement in bed size and road maintenance.

The majority of guests found the accommodation immaculate with daily maintained facilities such as the hot tub. However, one review mentioned spiders and grime in the hot tub, suggesting occasional lapses.

The cottage's location is celebrated for its beautiful setting and proximity to walks. However, the access road's condition and its suitability for certain vehicles slightly mar the experience.

Guests generally find the lodge comfortable, with a relaxing lounge and comfortable beds, although there are suggestions that larger beds would enhance the comfort further.

Facilities are highly regarded, including a well-stocked kitchen and maintained hot tub. Some teething problems with maintenance and WiFi connectivity have been noted, affecting the score.

While many reviews express appreciation for the lodge's amenities and the owners' responsiveness, there is insufficient information on thoughtful gestures such as gifts to accurately assess this category.

Belper, situated in the Derwent Valley Mills World Heritage site, is a town with a long and famous history dating back to the 13th century, when it was then called Beaurepaire (beautiful retreat), a name that still holds true today. Now you'll find it to be a spirited and bustling town, with attractions including the North Mill, Long Row and the River Gardens. There is a thriving local music and arts scene and the town hosts an annual Arts festival every May as well as Winter and Summer Food festivals and a monthly Farmers Market. The nearby historical village of Wirksworth is also home to a well-established Art and Architecture trail and Arts Festival every September. Just 10 miles away, the popular Peak District town of Matlock, together with its neighbour, Matlock Bath, are set in the beautiful wooded gorge of the River Derwent. The Matlocks offer a range of shops, pubs and restaurants as well as a whole host of other exciting attractions. Magnificent views down the gorge can be enjoyed from the cable car, which takes visitors up to the Heights of Abraham - a great place for all the family! South of the town is the start of the High Peak Cycle Trail, whilst to the north lie the market town of Bakewell and Chatsworth House - not to be missed! It was so spacious and decorated beautifully. The walks around the lodge were great and got us out for the full day and the hot tub was an added bonus!

Plenty of room and storage in bedrooms, and lovely decor throughout. Hot tub was lovely but clearly hadn't been drained, cleaned and refilled as stated, as there was sand in the bottom of the tub, and grime around the rim after first and only use! Owner did offer to drain and refill for us, but would have been out of action for 24 hours if they did this, and as we were only there for 1 more night, so didn't seem worth it for us! Only things we would recommend to change is the beds, only being doubles they were quite small! And the heating came on and off, which seemed to be via a timer, and there weren't any instructions specifically to control this, so heating instructions would be useful. Also the parking wasn't great, allocated spaces would be good, as the houses are right next to each other and guests turning up at different times were just leaving cars all over the gravel drive blocking others in! We forgot to mention this during our weekend! Owner was helpful and responded to any queries quickly, just a shame we were only there for a few days otherwise we could have had issues fixed. We would highly recommend the Devonshire pub in Belper, food was amazingly delicious, with a wide variety to suit all preferences. Local walk routes right on the farm as well which was handy for some fresh air. Garden/courtyard was lovely so we could enjoy the nice weather we did have! Overall we had a lovely time at Hunters Lodge to celebrate by 50th with friends.

What a lovely lodge it is, very modern, plenty of space and perfect for our small group with dogs. The hot tub was a great bonus, and we got plenty of use out of it! Would love to stay here again The only point I would make is that my Audi A6 did not do well on the long track road. I know some maintenance has been done to the road, but this was still an issue. All in all though a great break for us!
