Guests say

The Rockery Suite in Cumbria & The Lake District offers a cosy and charming stay with stunning views and lovely grounds. Guests appreciate the well-equipped kitchen, comfortable beds, and the property's proximity to local attractions and pubs. The open fire and welcome pack add to the homely feel, though some guests note the decor could be refreshed.

Cleanliness receives mixed reviews, with several guests noting issues such as dust, cobwebs, and unclean bathrooms, while others describe their stay as immaculate. The variance suggests inconsistency in cleaning standards.

The location is highly praised for its stunning scenery, quietness, and proximity to local amenities and walking paths. It is considered a highlight and a strong reason for guests to return.

Comfort is generally well-regarded, with guests finding the property cosy and the beds comfortable. However, some guests mention the property being dark and chilly, and the beds being too hard for their preference.

Facilities are deemed adequate with a well-equipped kitchen and spacious rooms, but several guests feel that the decor and fittings are dated and in need of an update. The maintenance of the property is also called into question with some minor issues reported.

Guests often mention a welcome pack, which adds a thoughtful touch to their stay. However, it is important to note that such amenities may vary and are not guaranteed for every stay.

About this property

The Rockery Suite is an attractive, one-bedroom first-floor apartment in Sawrey Knotts, an impressive mid-Victorian residence, set in three acres of landscaped gardens. Situated between Lake Windermere and Hawkshead, it is within walking distance of Hill Top, Beatrix Potter's spiritual home and museum. The grand building nestles into the rocky hillside, with cosy Rockery Suite tucked away at the rear of the building. It is ideal for couples wanting to escape the busy world for a while.

Climb the staircase and walk into your cosy and comfortable, dual aspect sitting room with dining area and admire the original window shutters, high ceiling and good-sized open fire with original marble surround, cast and tile inset. The fitted kitchen has every convenience for your stay. Your bright and spacious dual aspect bedroom has a king-size bed. You will find a pretty shower room nearby. The apartment has many delightful, personal touches and you will find a door at the rear for private access.

Walk half a mile to Lake Windermere’s lovely western shore and visit the intriguing Claife Viewing Station to admire panoramic views of the lake through coloured panels, before catching the ferry to Bowness to visit the Jetty, a modern museum of boats and steamers. If you fancy a more challenging walk, then why not hike up to Claife Heights with its dramatic views onto Lake Windermere and beyond. Visit Hawkshead to explore its historic Lake District church, where Wordsworth worshipped when he was boy at Hawkshead Grammar School, before browsing the shops and having a bite to eat at one of its excellent cafes and pub. Walk two-minute to the well-loved Cuckoo Brow with its bar and restaurant. At the end of your busy day, relax in the tranquil gardens with a favourite drink and enjoy stunning views towards the lake as it extends southwards, and towards Coniston Old Man in the west.

The picturesque village of Hawkshead still retains the charm and character that so endeared it to its most famous residents - William Wordsworth and Beatrix Potter. Visitors can wander the wealth of tiny alleyways, thoroughfares, archways and courtyards between the whitewashed 17th century houses. There are many pleasant inns, teashops, guest houses and gift shops in the village, as well as the Beatrix Potter Gallery, which houses an annually changing exhibition of the famous author’s illustrations and stories. The other famous Hawkshead enthusiast, William Wordsworth, attended the Old Grammar School in 1779-87, which still stands today, and you can visit the building where the Lakeland poet developed his love of the form, and even see the desk into which he scratched his name as a small boy! Newby Bridge is ten miles away and offers attractions such as the Aquarium of the Lakes and Windermere Lake Cruises, sailing daily between Ambleside, Bowness and Lakeside. With stunning scenery and numerous attractions within easy touring distance, Hawkshead is in an ideal location at any time of the year.

thankyou for the great welcome pack. great location and good to have the dog enclosed area, but would have welcomed a gate on the back garden. Also only one bin bag. Otherwise very homely and lots of great little touches for new travellers to the lakes to help them get around. Stayed in the lakes many times but not here, very nice area.
