Snaptrip says

Mulberry Cottage in Staveley offers a cosy stay with its prime location being highly praised. Guests appreciate the village's amenities and the property's proximity to walking areas. While some guests found the cottage comfortable and well-equipped, others noted areas for improvement in cleanliness and maintenance.

Guests that stayed at this property said

Guests have had mixed experiences with cleanliness. Some found the cottage to be cosy and well-kept, while others reported issues such as unpleasant odours, unclean surfaces, and stained carpets. The inconsistency in cleanliness has been noted, suggesting room for improvement.

The location of Mulberry Cottage is consistently praised for its convenience and the charm of Staveley village. Guests enjoy the local amenities, including pubs, cafes, and shops, as well as the easy access to walking paths and the Lake District's attractions.

Comfort levels are generally satisfactory, with several guests finding the beds comfy and the cottage cosy. However, some guests mentioned that the mattresses and sofas are worn and could be more comfortable, indicating that some furnishings may need updating.

Facilities are adequate, with a well-equipped kitchen and a warm log burner. However, guests have reported maintenance issues such as a missing wood burner door, non-working radiators, and a need for updates to the bathroom and stair carpets. These points suggest that while the facilities are serviceable, they could benefit from attention.

There is insufficient information regarding any thoughtful touches or gifts provided by the hosts, as no reviews mention these aspects. Therefore, it is not possible to assess the thoughtfulness category accurately.

About this property

Tucked away in the lovely village of Staveley, Mulberry Cottage is the perfect retreat for a couple or small family who prefer to be away from the busier Lake District hot spots. Staveley itself is known for its eclectic mix of cafés, restaurants and shops. A haven for those interested in local art and crafts, and one of the most popular stop-offs for walkers (The Dales Way runs past) and cyclists. The award winning Hawkshead Brewery is based nearby, often with live music playing in the evenings.

Mulberry Cottage has been planned to perfection. Two comfortable leather sofas piled high with cushions and arranged round a cosy stove make the perfect spot for snuggling up after a busy day outdoors. A glass of wine or local beer, a film or good book, and the dog snoozing on the rug, what could be better? The kitchen is generous in size and wonderfully well-equipped, with guests having the choice of dining at the breakfast bar or around a wooden dining table.

Upstairs are two pretty bedrooms, a spacious king size and a generous single, both tastefully furnished with wall to wall carpets and plenty of storage. The shared shower room is modern, bright and tiled from floor to ceiling.

With the lively resorts of Windermere and Ambleside only a few miles down the road (also reachable by train from the village station), Bowness and Lakeside in striking distance and so many interesting walks to enjoy, Mulberry Cottage is a wonderful Lakeland retreat.

A historic market town with a fine reputation for shopping, Kendal nestles on the banks of the River Kent and is known as the Southern Gateway to the Lakes. Its old cobbled lanes and byways branch off the attractive main street, and the stone ruins of 12th century Kendal Castle sit perched on a hill with views over the town. Visit The Abbot Hall Art Gallery, its regular collection holding portraits by Kendal born George Romney and works by Turner and Ruskin, with other exhibitions through its links with the Tate. Both Sizergh Castle and Levens Hall with its superb Topiary Garden are nearby, as are limestone escarpments for easy walking, offering thrilling views of the Lakeland Mountains, the Howgills and Morecambe Bay. Kendal itself is ideally placed for exploring South Lakeland, the Yorkshire Dales and beyond. With other attractions such as Kendal Museum and the Museum of Lakeland Life, the fascinating Quaker Tapestry, Lake Windermere and the wider National Park within easy reach, Kendal provides a superb base for a relaxing break.

It was well maintained and in a superb location with easy access to the dales as well as the lakes. The only negatives were the absence of a parking space and no garden. This is supposed to be a dog friendly cottage but, there was no where safe to let a dog out.

    Would definitely stay again

The cottage has everything you need and is generally very well equipped. It could do with a spatula adding to the kitchen utensils. We enjoy the slate bench in the front garden to sit out in the sun. As a village Staveley has so many perks - Kimi’s ice-cream shop, the More Bakery, the Hawkshead Brewery bar, Cafes, a Fish and Chip shop, pub and a Spar. And its convenient to get to many places in the Lakes. There we a few light bulbs in the lamps that were blown and therefore not working but when we contacted Lakelovers about this they were responsive and said if would be rectified. We have already booked again for the end of September.
