Ivy Cottage is a well-equipped and cosy property with stunning views and direct access to local walks, making it a charming stay in Ambleside. Despite some feedback on the need for maintenance and modernisation, guests love the location and the cottage's character.
Guests have had mixed experiences with cleanliness. Some found the cottage tidy, while others noted issues with dust, debris, and marks on walls. The inconsistency leads to a slightly above average score.
The location is highly praised for its beautiful views and proximity to local walks and Ambleside. It's ideal for guests looking to enjoy the outdoors, contributing to an excellent score.
The comfort of the cottage received mixed reviews. While the living areas are described as cosy, several guests mentioned the need for better seating and a more comfortable mattress, resulting in a good score.
Facilities are generally good, with a well-designed kitchen and wet room. However, guests have reported maintenance issues such as non-draining showers and a loose window. The lack of WiFi and dated aspects affect the score.
While some guests suggested the addition of a welcome hamper and outdoor cushions, these are not consistently mentioned across reviews. As such, there isn't enough information to score thoughtfulness, and it remains null.
Ivy Cottage is a luxury holiday home in Clappersgate, on the lower slopes of Loughrigg Fell, with wonderful views out to Lake Windermere and beyond. The property is a magical getaway that sleeps up to four guests over two bedrooms, so it’s ideal for a couple or family and is close to the dramatic Langdale Valley, whilst Ambleside, with its amenities and attractions is just a short walk away. At the cottage, you'll experience all the charm and character of traditional Lakeland living; pretty latch doors, exposed wooden beams and of course a wood burning stove - even a window seat from which to drink in the views. But with comfort in mind, the owners have gone to great lengths installing heating under the solid oak floors, chic modern bathrooms . A pretty walled garden is perfect for soaking up the sun and surveying all that is around you and for those who enjoy walking walkers, there’s a path leading straight onto Loughrigg Fell. This property is unsuitable for babies or toddlers and due to the pathway access may not be suitable for the elderly or infirm.
Lying at the northern tip of Lake Windermere, England’s largest lake, Ambleside makes a superb base for touring the central Lakes, with Grasmere and the Langdale Valley just a short drive away. There is plenty to do here - cruises, boat trips and watersports on Lake Windermere itself and numerous shops, restaurants and pubs in the village to suit all tastes. On the lakeside at Waterhead, the parkland offers lovely views down the lake and a short stretch of beach, whilst a walk in the other direction, following Stock Ghyll through woodland, will bring you to the entrancing waterfall of Stock Ghyll Force. Along with the Lake and the great walking on offer, Ambleside is also famous for its annual rushbearing ceremony and the diminutive 17th century “Bridge House” - one of the most photographed buildings in the Lake District and now the National Trust Information Centre.

Great facilities. Great location for walking and Ambleside shops and bars. WIFI is needed plus more information on local walks and using facilities in the cottage are needed. There were plenty of brochures on family actives.

Well set out property with the living room on the upper floor, great views across the area Parking permit left in the property it would be nice if there was a crude diagram of where the actual parking is

Basing ourselves here for a course at the university we needed internet access for coursework and reading outside of learning hours which was not possible. The third floor window in the box seat in the kitchen was only held in by one single screw which could result in a terrible accident if someone leant on it. A light in the master bedroom fell out of the ceiling of its own accord, the towel rail in the first floor bedroom en-suite was leaking and had to be switched off. The property needs some attention I think, has the potential to be a lovely holiday cottage but the above particularly lack of WiFi really caused us some difficulty.
