About this property

Loughrigg is a duplex apartment set in the centre of Ambleside, Cumbria. Offering stunning views over the Grasmere hills and set just paces from several shops, pubs and restaurants, Loughrigg makes an ideal home-away-from-home, welcoming families and couples for a weekend or long week in the Lake District. Upon arrival, you are greeted by an allocated off-road parking space; with so much in walking distance, you’ll hardly need the car at all! The open-plan living space provides a homely feel, where you can kick back on the sofas and catch up on the days events, or search through the Smart TV for your favourite on-demand apps and shows. Culinary delights can be prepared in the fully fitted kitchen, assisted by an electric oven and hob, microwave, fridge/freezer, and there’s even a dishwasher so you won’t have to raise a finger when washing up! Venture upstairs to find the bedrooms, offering a king-size and a twin, along with a bathroom where you can freshen up before the day ahead. Step out to the balcony and unwind at the table and chairs, admiring the striking views of the hills and over the town. Ambleside, which is set at the heart of the National Park, is an excellent place for touring the area’s lakes, villages and hamlets. Leave the car and strike out on foot, exploring the local shops, cafes, pubs, bakeries and restaurants, in the town. Set off to enjoy the many beautiful, and dramatic walks and trails that make this part of the world so special - whether it’s level, peaceful riverside walks through Rothay Park or a challenging climb to the stunning fells, you will find it close to your doorstep. Learn about local history at the Armitt Museum and Gallery and discover the bygone times of many Lake District locations, or venture into Bowness-on-Windermere where Beatrix Potter’s magical tales of Peter Rabbit come to life at the interactive children’s museum. If you’re seeking some adventure, Windermere is home to an array of watersports and wild swimming opportunities or lace up your walking boots and hike through the scenery, including those at Todd Cragg, Scafell Pike, and Red Screes. Whether you're looking to relax or explore, Loughrigg provides the perfect base for an unforgettable holiday in the Lake District.

Lying at the northern tip of Lake Windermere, England’s largest lake, Ambleside makes a superb base for touring the central Lakes, with Grasmere and the Langdale Valley just a short drive away. There is plenty to do here - cruises, boat trips and watersports on Lake Windermere itself and numerous shops, restaurants, and pubs in the village to suit all tastes, including the popular eateries of Misto, Sheila's Cottage, and The Lily Bar. On the lakeside at Waterhead, the parkland offers lovely views down the lake and a short stretch of beach, whilst a walk in the other direction, following Stock Ghyll through woodland, will bring you to the entrancing waterfall of Stock Ghyll Force. Along with the Lake and the great walking on offer, Ambleside is also famous for its annual rushbearing ceremony and the diminutive 17th century “Bridge House” - one of the most photographed buildings in the Lake District and now the National Trust Information Centre.

It's a very comfortable and homely apartment; well furnished, clean, and with plenty of kitchen utensils, crockery, towels, welcome pack, etc.  It had everything we needed; we especially loved the balcony. We would book this apartment again.

View from the floor to ceiling window in the kitchen made dining such a joy. Very comfortable sitting area and pleasing artwork of local landmarks on the walls. Powerful shower downstairs with the added bonus of a deep bath in the upstairs bathroom for a long soak after climbing Loughrigg. Good to see recycling bins and parking is almost outside the door. A well equipped kitchen - Sabatier knives, nice glasses and even Emma Bridgewater mugs! We shall miss drinking our morning coffee out of them looking at that wonderful view.

It's so central, just 5 mins walk to the main streets, shops and bus stops, yet very quiet. It was extremely comfortable and homely, well furnished and with plenty of kitchen equipment and general storage. The views were incredible. Yes, an uphill walk is involved in getting to the apartment (we did not bring the car), but there are ways of making it easier. We preferred to access via the path near the Salutation Hotel. With luggage, on return, it was easier to use the roads rather than the short-cuts. We would definitely return.
