About this property

Redwood is a modern detached property occupying a slightly elevated spot on the lower slopes of Wansfell. The location commands fine views towards Loughrigg Fell and The Fairfield Horseshoe and it is just a half mile walk, downhill, to the centre of vibrant Ambleside. Offering the very best of both worlds this contemporary cottage sits in a peaceful position yet is still close enough to the village for convenience and access to its amenities.

Beautifully presented and well appointed the open plan living space on the ground level is fabulous and has patio doors leading to a furnished decked area where you can sip a cup of tea or even a glass or two! The conservatory offers a place to escape to and relax, while upstairs you’ll benefit from superb views from the three bedrooms and the large, luxurious bathroom.

There’s private parking at the front of the property, along with a front garden with seating. Enter the house via the porch, perfect for walking clobber, then into the open plan living space, a bright and airy lounge with leather sofas and plenty of space that runs through to the dining area with patio doors looking up onto Wansfell. To the rear, there's a back garden and decked patio complete with furniture, ideal for al-fresco living.

The kitchen is well equipped and you can relax in the conservatory. There is also an additional shower room with WC off this room. On the first floor, the three bedrooms, two double and one single are beautifully presented offer far reaching views and the large and luxurious bathroom has a double ended bath and separate power shower cubicle.

Lying at the northern tip of Lake Windermere, England’s largest lake, Ambleside makes a superb base for touring the central Lakes, with Grasmere and the Langdale Valley just a short drive away. There is plenty to do here - cruises, boat trips and watersports on Lake Windermere itself and numerous shops, restaurants and pubs in the village to suit all tastes. On the lakeside at Waterhead, the parkland offers lovely views down the lake and a short stretch of beach, whilst a walk in the other direction, following Stock Ghyll through woodland, will bring you to the entrancing waterfall of Stock Ghyll Force. Along with the Lake and the great walking on offer, Ambleside is also famous for its annual rushbearing ceremony and the diminutive 17th century “Bridge House” - one of the most photographed buildings in the Lake District and now the National Trust Information Centre.

The owners have to be congratulated on their care and generosity in providing everything you could possibly need as well as the little extras that made us feel so at home. We have been coming to the Lake District for over 50 years and this is, without doubt, the most welcoming place we have stayed. The walk up from town was a little steep for our 75 year old legs but Ambleside Taxis saved our arthritic knees! And the couple of days when the rain kept us indoors were spent appreciating the warmth and comfort of the house and enjoying the views and the wildlife. Improvements? None whatsoever!

We all very much enjoyed our stay and the presence of children's items meant that we did not feel so worried about our daughter enjoying herself, playing and having the odd spill which we of course cleaned up. The only thing that would have made this better would have been if the listing on sykes had more information about what was available as we are so used to having to bring so much with us that we overpacked and knowing the items were already there would have saved us a bit of stress. We are also very greatful to the lovely owners who came to free a stuck sheep in the garden and in the process spotted our daughter playing with one of their stuffed animals and allowed her to keep it. it has become a favourite and she has not let it leave her side since. We loved our stay and will be booking again next year.
