Guests say

Guests consistently praise the Windermere Suite for its cleanliness, spaciousness, and stunning views. The property's location is ideal for exploring the Lakes, with easy access to Ambleside and surrounding walks. Comfort is highlighted with well-equipped rooms and tranquil settings. While most experiences are positive, some guests mention issues with maintenance, particularly with the showers and a recurring smell from the drains. Thoughtfulness in terms of guest amenities varies, with some guests receiving welcome gifts and others noting their absence.

The property receives high marks for cleanliness, with numerous guests describing it as 'very clean', 'exceedingly clean', and 'tidy'. This consistent feedback suggests that the property is maintained to a high standard of cleanliness.

The location is highly praised for its proximity to Ambleside, stunning views, and accessibility to walks and local attractions. Guests appreciate the tranquility and privacy, as well as the convenience for exploring the Lake District.

Comfort is frequently commended, with guests finding the property spacious, well-furnished, and cosy. The presence of en-suite bathrooms and comfortable beds are often mentioned, contributing to the overall comfort of the stay.

Facilities are generally well-regarded, especially the well-equipped kitchen and spacious living areas. However, there are recurring comments about maintenance issues such as problematic showers and a persistent smell from the drains, which affects the score.

While some guests mention receiving welcome gifts such as wine, others do not, and there is no consistent reference to such amenities being provided. Therefore, it cannot be guaranteed that guests will receive these thoughtful touches, and the score is set to null due to insufficient information.

About this property

Windermere Suite is a luxurious, contemporary second-floor apartment set in acres of delightful hillside surroundings, with spectacular views to Lake Windermere, England’s largest lake. The apart-ment is part of the former Vicarage, a magnificent nineteenth century Grade II listed building. It is a lovely ten-minute stroll over a pretty stone bridge, through tranquil Rothay Park to the centre of the Lakeland town of Ambleside. Drive though the security gates up the winding drive to your parking area, get out and pause for a moment, to take in this tranquil and invigorating setting, before heading up the steps to the main building. Go inside, climb the sweeping, grand staircase to the second floor and walk through the entrance hall to find your luxuriously furnished and spacious split-level sitting room. You will be im-mediately drawn to the south facing turret windows, where you can look out to the glistening lake and the breath-takingly beautiful countryside. You are sure to be delighted by the stunning views from all the properties windows.Relax on the sumptuous furniture and read a book, listen to music or browse the web on the Smart TV, or sit with your favourite drink and plan the next day’s activities. Ambleside, which is set at the heart of the National Park, is a great place for touring the area’s lakes, villages and hamlets. Fancy leaving the car and striking out on foot? No problem, you are staying in the perfect spot. Climb up to nearby Todd Cragg and experience the majestic view of the river winding its way to the lake and the stunning scenery beyond. Set off on one of the many other wonderful trails and walks that start from your doorstep.

Sit on a garden bench to relax and admire the trees, shrubs and wildlife, or if you feel energised play tennis on the shared hard tennis court. At the end of your busy day, unwind in your gorgeous bedrooms. You will find one king size with a luxury en-suite and a twin room with en-suite shower room. There is an additional cloakroom with WC and basin in the hallway.

Lying at the northern tip of Lake Windermere, England’s largest lake, Ambleside makes a superb base for touring the central Lakes, with Grasmere and the Langdale Valley just a short drive away. There is plenty to do here - cruises, boat trips and watersports on Lake Windermere itself and numerous shops, restaurants and pubs in the village to suit all tastes. On the lakeside at Waterhead, the parkland offers lovely views down the lake and a short stretch of beach, whilst a walk in the other direction, following Stock Ghyll through woodland, will bring you to the entrancing waterfall of Stock Ghyll Force. Along with the Lake and the great walking on offer, Ambleside is also famous for its annual rushbearing ceremony and the diminutive 17th century “Bridge House” - one of the most photographed buildings in the Lake District and now the National Trust Information Centre.

Good facilities. Drains smell a problem.

Scaffolding around the property is now being removed and the guys were quiet and hardworking. The ongoing issue with the drains smell needs a permanent fix as it spoils the experience if you are using the twin bedroom. Sykes need to be far more explicit about this to manage people’s expectations.

I have stayed here many times over the years and love it. I will definitely be returning.
