The majority of guests found the property to be well-maintained, suggesting a good level of cleanliness overall.

The location is highly praised for its tranquillity, proximity to Grasmere, and the surrounding fells. Guests appreciate the short walks to local amenities and the ease of access to walking paths, making it an ideal base for exploring the Lake District.

The property is well-equipped and furnished, with a few guests noting issues with hot water and showers. Some maintenance concerns were raised, such as the need for better shower pressure and extractor fan repairs. Despite this, the facilities are generally thought to be of high quality.

While some guests mentioned the lack of basic provisions such as soap and welcome gifts like a bottle of wine, there is not enough consistent information across reviews to accurately assess the level of thoughtfulness. Therefore, this score is set to null.

About this property

Set on the edge of the village and just a few minutes walk from the famous Swan Inn, Lanterns At Grasmere, is a beautifully presented contemporary bungalow. The owners have taken pride to create a high quality property that offers fantastic accommodation in a first class location ideal for family or friends whatever the time of year. All laid out on the ground floor, this bright & airy contemporary home is on the edge of the village, 5 minutes walk from the famous Swan Inn for a cosy pint and food. The Michelin starred Forest Side is probably 10 minutes walk away if you can book a table! Grasmere itself has many little bistros and pubs, and interesting shops/galleries to wander around as well as stunning walks all around and up to Loughrigg Fell. “The fairest spot and earth” was how William Wordsworth described Grasmere 200 years ago and today this pretty village, remains one of the most delightful parts of the Lake District. 'Lanterns' is a great location and a comfortable contemporary place to stay.

Situated in the heart of the Lake District National Park is the lovely village of Grasmere, probably best known as the home of William Wordsworth, a place he once described as "The most loveliest spot that man hath found". Any visit to Grasmere needs to include The Grasmere Gingerbread shop, where the Wilson family have been making gingerbread for over 60 years. Also in the village are a number of shops, pubs, a church which dates back to the 13th century and Grasmere Lake, plus Grasmere Sports takes place every August, where you can watch participants compete in a variety of sports, including Cumberland Wrestling. Just five miles away is the town of Ambleside and Lake Winderemere where you will find shops, pubs, restaurants and the 17th century Bridge House, which is one of the most photographed buildings in the Lake District. Cruises, boat trips and watersports can all be enjoyed on Lake Windermere and the towns of Windermere and Keswick are also within driving distance. Grasmere is a wonderful base for your Lake District retreat.

It has all the important points right, good beds, comfortable sofas, a well equipped kitchen, good heating and plenty of hot water. It is a light and airy property with lovely views and is in an excellent location within walking distance of Grasmere. It takes a while for the hot water to come through in both the kitchen and one of the en suites but once it does, there’s plenty. This is not unusual in an older property. Grasmere has lots of good eateries in the area if you don’t want to cook. Try The Jumble Room and The Yan at Broadrayne. We liked Lanterns so much we rebooked for next year whilst staying there.

Also had to boil the kettle in the kitchen for hot water because it took an age to get hot. Seating and beds all very comfortable and the heating was efficient. Conservatory was great too. House in a great location just a short walk to Grasmere.

It is very spacious, well laid out and is situated in the central fells, surrounded by mountains. You are just a few minutes walk from the beautiful village of Grasmere, Given its status as one of the very best holiday properties, we have noticed on this and previous visits that despite being generally clean [fridge, sinks, showers, worktops, tables] the more ‘hidden’ areas do need a more thorough cleaning and on this occasion, several ‘open’ areas had balls of dust/hair visible. For me, this 5* property rates at about 4.8 due to the cleaning issues. Still love it, but so wish it was cleaned more thoroughly.
