The small village of Newby Bridge takes its name from the five arched stone bridge built in 1651 over the River Leven. The famous Furness Railway, one of Britain's oldest working standard gauge steam railways, runs between Haverthwaite and Newby Bridge. Visit the Lakeside Hotels and enjoy magnificent views across Windermere and the surrounding fells, or enjoy the Aquarium of the Lakes, where the naturally-themed habitats bring the history of the Lakes vividly to life. Bowness-on-Windermere provides a lovely day out, plus the picturesque village of Hawkshead still retains the charm and character that so endeared it to its most famous residents, William Wordsworth and Beatrix Potter, and admire the views at nearby Gummer's How.

    It has everything you need including a cosy wood burning stove at the end of the day and a delightful welcome tea tray from the lovely owners.

    David and Anne made us very welcome and were available if we needed them. The special touches like the scones and jam and the lovely arrangement of flowers just added to our holiday. It was great to do both local walks from the cottage as well as going further afield. The cottage is situated in a lovely peaceful valley.
