Haverthwaite is a small village and civil parish in the Furness region of Cumbria. It is within the Lake District National Park and is located six miles east of Ulverston, near the southern end of Windermere. The village gets part of its name from the Old Norse word thwaite which usually refers to a clearing or settlement in the forest. Close to the village is Newby Bridge which is at the southern tip of Lake Windermere which takes its name from the five arched stone bridge built in 1651 over the River Leven. The famous Furness Railway, one of Britain's oldest working standard gauge steam railways, runs between Haverthwaite and Newby Bridge. Visit the Lakeside Hotels and enjoy magnificent views across Windermere and the surrounding fells, or enjoy the Aquarium of the Lakes, where the naturally themed habitats, bring the history of the Lakes vividly to life.

Lots of information provided & great walks direct from lodge, although an OS map would have been handy. Ulverston not far for food shop. Easy access to south lakes & coast. Just wish we had more time to enjoy.

A lovely, comfortable and extremely clean lodge with all the space and equipment needed to ensure a wonderful stay in the Lakes. We would definitely recommend and will book to stay again. The outside space is lovely and itâs a good location for visiting other parts of the Lake District for exploring & hiking. 2 small points for us were the bed was slightly too firm (but you canât please everyone on this) and the heating seemed to be restricted (but we had blankets for the colder nights). Thank you for a fantastic holiday. Clare & Si in Darley

The lodge itself is in excellent condition, with lovely ensuite shower rooms in both bedrooms with great hot showers and comfy furniture throughout. The kitchen is well stocked with utensils and pans etc and has everything you need for a great holiday. The location is lovely and peaceful and is a good base for exploring the southern part of The Lakes. We would highly recommend this lodge if you are planning a holiday in The Lakes!
