Guests say

Holly Cottage is praised for its cosy atmosphere, well-equipped kitchen, and comfortable beds. The large, invigorating shower and lovely garden are frequently mentioned, as is the property's central location for exploring Norfolk. The secure garden is a hit with dog owners, and the cottage's character adds to its charm. Some minor issues with cleanliness in the sitting room were noted, but overall, guests seem to have enjoyed their stay.

Most reviews indicate that Holly Cottage is clean, particularly the kitchen, bedrooms, and bathroom. However, one review mentions a lack of thoroughness in the sitting room and an issue with the mop and pail, leading to a slightly reduced score.

The location is highly regarded for its peacefulness, proximity to various attractions, and suitability for dog walking. Its central position in Norfolk and easy access to Norwich and the seaside are appreciated by guests.

Guests find the beds very comfortable and the cottage cosy, contributing to a restful sleep. The sloping floor in the main bedroom is noted but is seen as part of the cottage's character rather than a discomfort.

The cottage is well-equipped with a large shower, a well-appointed kitchen, and a secure garden. Some minor maintenance issues like a gap in the fence and ants are mentioned, but overall, the facilities meet guests' needs.

There is no mention of gifts or special touches that would indicate thoughtfulness from the hosts. Therefore, this category cannot be scored.

About this property

The thatched cottage enjoys a peaceful location on the edge of a wood, in the charming village of Hemblington. Sleeping four guests, the cosy cottage makes a great base for couples and small families seeking a quiet, countryside bolthole. The area is a haven for walkers and wildlife enthusiasts, with picturesque walks in the Norfolk Broads, just 2.5 miles away, and the nearby nature reserve at rspb Strumpshaw Fen (3 miles).

The chocolate-box retreat has a beautiful blend of traditional features and contemporary home comforts, creating a cosy and characterful base for your holiday. Enter the property into the inviting lounge, with its beamed ceiling, plush seating, and original fireplace housing a warming wood burner. From here, head through to the kitchen/diner, where you’ll find everything needed to rustle up tasty meals for the group, to enjoy together at the wooden dining table. A stylish shower room completes the ground floor. Upstairs, two cosy bedrooms are set in the eaves, under a fabulous beamed ceiling (please note, these rooms have restricted head height in some areas). Outside, soak up the sunshine on the south-facing patio, which boasts comfortable outdoor seating. There’s also a fully enclosed lawn that’s ideal for children and four-pawed guests.

The twin villages of Wroxham and Hoveton are 6 miles away and, collectively, are known as the capital of the Broads. Hire a boat here or hop on a cruise to explore the ancient network of waterways. The villages have an excellent array of independent eateries, many with waterside views. The cottage is also within easy reach of the coast. For a relaxing day at the seaside, head to the unspoilt fishing village of Winterton-on-Sea (15.5 miles), where you’ll find a sandy beach, dramatic coast path, pretty thatched cottages, and cosy village pub.

Can't not recommend a stay at Holly Cottage enough! So peaceful, so snug and warm with everything you need. The beds were the ridiculously comfy - so much so I had an afternoon nap on the first day! Easy to use fireplace with kindling and logs available added a lovely hyggeligt ambience. The shower was huge and a joy to use. Great for the dog who was able to sniff around the secure garden. The location is superb - secluded enough to enjoy the quiet and bird song but all of 20 mins easy drive to Norwich City and pootle along the Great Yarmouth (the seaside town of your 90s childhood!) Perfect space for younger children as we left our eldest with family otherwise they would have been in each others faces too much.

The cottage was in a lovely rural village, but only a short drive from Norwich. There were woods and public footpaths nearby; great for walking dog. There is a large and secluded garden with comfortable garden furniture. The house was thoughtfully decorated and well equipped. The kitchen, bedrooms and bathroom were all clean; unfortunately the sitting room was not. There was filthy black dirt and fluff on the floor in all corners, and cobwebs behind the furniture. It looked as if there had been a quick dust and hoover of the central rug, but the rest of the room had not been cleaned for a considerable time. There was a smell from the mop and pail in the cupboard in the sitting room. We were there for two weeks; in other self catering cottages a change of bedding and linen is usually provided at the end of the first week. This did not happen. There were spare towels, but no spare bed linen. Following our holiday, I contacted Original Cottages on 17th September - I noted the positive aspects of the house as well as the negative. After sending a reminder on 1st October, I finally received an acknowledgement and belated apology on 3rd October, with no note of what action might be taken. I had not intended to include the negative aspects of the house in my review, as, on balance the house had more positive aspects, but given the poor and belated response from this company, I have written a full review.

The cottage was cosy but quite small for four adults.
