Owner gave us freedom and trust to use the property for an enjoyable time without too many restrictions and welcomed us on arrival.

Very comfy beds! Great hot tub and bar area and cosy lounge area with plenty of seating. The surroundings are beautiful and there is plenty to do in the area - we visited Barnard Castle, the Bowes Museum, did a really lovely walk to High Force (amazing waterfall) and a walk down the disused railway line just behind the house. There is also a little play park and small football field just to the back of the house - really great for kids. There is a pub just 2 minutes down the road but unfortunately we weren’t able to go (we have 2 small kids) but it looks very nice and I read good things about their takeaway pizza in the house guest book. Peter was a really lovely host - he met us on arrival and showed us how the hot tub works etc. there was a lovely welcome hamper waiting for us also! Peter is from the area and so is very knowledgable about where to go/ best parking etc. Overall we had a really wonderful stay and are thinking about returning at some point with a different group x

Pub just over the road. Stairs steep so might be tricky for elderly guests. Two suggestions - shower mat (my mother nervous without one) & extra chopping boards - there were a lot of us to cook for!
