The woodland area surrounding this Kendal cottage supports a wide variety of birds, animals and plants, including deer and badgers. There are many walks in the area and a favourite is the ascent of Lambrigg Fell via Moresdale Tarn to a height of just over 1000 feet above sea level, which offers panoramic views of the Lake District Mountains, the Pennines and Morecambe Bay. The Dalesway long distance footpath runs through the grounds and this can be followed in either direction to the Lune Valley or towards the terminus at Windermere. Kendal is set on the banks of the River Kent offering old cobbled lanes and byways, ruins of a 12th Century castle, The Abbot Hall Art Gallery, shops and pubs. Close by is Sizergh Castle and Levens Hall, plus there are walking routes in the area.
