Guests say

Eden House in Ulverston is a well-loved holiday rental, praised for its spacious and well-equipped kitchen, comfortable lounge area, and delightful hot tub. The property's beautiful location and the presence of farm animals add to its charm. While some guests encountered issues with cleanliness and maintenance, the majority had a pleasant stay, enjoying the property's ample space and facilities.

Guests generally found Eden House to be clean and comfortable. However, there were a few mentions of cleanliness issues such as dirt under beds and sofas, and a dirty rug. These instances seem to be exceptions rather than the rule, but they do impact the overall perception of cleanliness.

The property's location in Ulverston is highly regarded, with guests appreciating the quiet surroundings and proximity to local walks and the beach. The presence of farm animals and the beautiful grounds were also highlights, contributing to the property's appeal.

Most guests found the beds comfortable and the property spacious, with a cosy and homely feel. There were some comments about uncomfortable beds and a cold property upon arrival, but these were not widespread concerns.

The property boasts a range of facilities including a hot tub, sauna, and games room, which were generally well-received. However, there were reports of maintenance issues such as non-working heating and a broken dishwasher, which suggest room for improvement in this area.

While guests appreciated the well-equipped kitchen and the labelled cupboards, there were no specific mentions of gifts or special touches that would indicate thoughtfulness from the hosts. Therefore, it is not possible to provide a score for this category.

About this property

A spacious detached cottage in the landscaped grounds of Eden Lodge, a country house on the outskirts of Bardsea, one mile from the traditional Lakeland market town of Ulverston and a short walk from Ulverston Golf Course. Set in beautiful, mature parkland overlooking Morecambe Bay, this Bardsea cottage provides an ideal base for families and groups of friends to get together and enjoy the beautiful Furness Peninsula and its attractions. There is a spacious sitting room in this Bardsea cottage, with an adjoining conservatory/summer room and doors to a private garden. There is also a spacious master bedroom with en-suite shower room; a further five well laid-out bedrooms and an unusual first floor farmhouse-style kitchen with large table and a small wooden balcony area. Offering country living at its best, this Bardsea cottage provides that little bit of extra luxury with its own private, roofed outdoor six-seater hot tub and a large wood-fired hexagonal sauna. The beach is a leisurely ten minute walk away from this Bardsea cottage, and the Manjushri Buddhist Temple and its beautiful wooded grounds are close by, whilst Ulverston Golf Club is also just a few minutes' walk away. The festival town of Ulverston is just one mile away from this cottage in Bardsea, with its many pubs, restaurants and bi-weekly market, while the sandy beaches of the Furness coast, and Coniston, with its mountain biking, climbing and watersports are just a short drive away. An excellent holiday base with a touch of luxury. Note: This property is in the grounds of Ref. 918339, together they sleep 39.

Positioned on a hill overlooking Morecambe Bay is the small village of Bardsea. This remote settlement grew from a small fishing village and farming area to become a major transportation link for coal, iron ore and corn. Today, Bardsea still retains its fishing heritage, and features two pubs, both of which serve fine ales and good food. The village itself is located close to Furness Abbey, whilst the market town of Ulverston is just two miles away, and maintains its street market tradition, hosting one every Thursday and Saturday throughout the year. Ulverston is also the location for many festivals including an amazing lantern procession in November and a Dickensian weekend in early December. With all the attractions of the Lake District National Park within easy driving distance, and the sandy beaches of the Furness coast close by, this peaceful spot has plenty to offer.

All bar the downstairs shower were OK after that and I let the gentleman know when we leaving. The kitchen was fantastic and had everything you needed for cooking etc. All the beds we used were very comfortable and the linens and towels supplied were spotless and of a high quality. We all enjoyed our stay. Just a few too many signs for us, charges would occur if property left in a mess and don't open doors as noise carrues etc. These issues were addressed on our booking and it did make us feel awkward.

I’ve stayed here or at the Eden Lodge (on the same property) almost every summer for the past 10 years, and I always look forward to coming back. The rooms are comfortable and quiet - there were 12 of us total this year. The dine-in kitchen is huge with a beautiful setup (dream kitchen for me) and a nice gathering area. The ground level has a sitting room with several couches and chairs that leads into the sunroom with table tennis; plus the hot tub and sauna are a nice bonus. Eden House has a lot of space for a large group of people. The grounds also have plenty of outdoor sitting areas, and in recent years, we’ve enjoyed the addition of the farm animals including sheep, pigs, chickens, goats and peacocks. Fabrizio, the caretaker, and Ernst, the owner, are also very responsive if any issues arise, though we’ve never had any major issues; thanks so much to them for making Eden House available to us, year after year. Highly recommend Eden House and Eden Lodge!
