The nearby Ribble Valley and Forest of Bowland (AONB) is a haven for walkers and cyclists alike. Climb Pendle Hill and learn about the witches from this area. There is also Gisburn Forest for walking, and mountain biking trails for all levels and abilities in this picturesque setting. The popular market town of Clitheroe in the Ribble Valley is closeby, where you can visit the famous Castle which stands proud above Clitheroe. This picturesque town has many individual shops, wine bars, cafes and restaurants. The National Trust's Gawthorpe Hall is an Elizabethan house now home to art and textile collections, set in beautiful grounds, while the Towneley Art Gallery & Museum, set in a stately home, hosts Victorian and Pre Raphelite art as well as local history. Get out in nature and visit Brockholes Nature Reserve which is home to rare bird species in this wetland and woodland location, and visit the unique floating visitor village. The small town of Oswaldtwistle rests in south east Lancashire and is not far from Blackburn. The town is home to a good selection of shops, pubs and restaurants, and is around a half an hour from the Forest of Bowland Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, which offers plenty of excellent walking country. Passing through the town is the Leeds and Liverpool Canal, once used for exporting cotton, it now presents a lovely way to explore the area on foot or on bike.
