Guests say

The Old Stables in Carnforth offers a peaceful and idyllic rural retreat with a blend of traditional charm and modern comforts. Guests have praised the property's cleanliness, spaciousness, and well-equipped facilities, alongside its proximity to the Dales and Lake District. The tranquil setting and thoughtful touches by the owners contribute to a highly recommended stay, despite a few minor maintenance issues and navigational challenges.

Most guests found The Old Stables to be extremely clean and welcoming. There were a couple of mentions of specific cleanliness issues in the bathrooms, but these appear to be isolated incidents rather than a general trend.

The property's location is highly praised for its quiet, peaceful setting and proximity to the Dales, Lake District, and the town of Kirby Lonsdale. Some guests experienced difficulty with navigation and incorrect postcodes, but overall, the location is considered ideal for nature lovers and those seeking tranquillity.

Guests have commented on the comfortable furnishings and the cosy atmosphere of the property, particularly enjoying the powerful showers and underfloor heating. The spacious living areas and bedrooms contribute to the overall comfort, although there were minor comments about mattress quality and a damp feeling in one room.

The Old Stables is well-equipped with modern kitchen appliances, a wood-burning stove, and a good Wi-Fi connection. However, there were some remarks about maintenance issues such as blunt kitchen knives, a problematic kettle, and outdoor furniture condition. The presence of a new kitchen was noted positively.

While many guests appreciated the overall experience at The Old Stables, there is insufficient information regarding specific thoughtful gestures such as welcome gifts to provide a score. It is politely noted that while some guests may receive gifts, they are not a guaranteed amenity.

About this property

Kirkby Lonsdale 3 miles. The thoughtful conversion of an old stone-built barn and stable block, dating back to 1746, has resulted in this wonderful detached property of much character. Situated in a pretty position next to Fleshbeck stream in the scattered hamlet of Mansergh, The Old Stables enjoys views over a wooded dell, teeming with bluebells in the spring, and even the occasional deer! Upside down to take advantage of both the pretty views and the many original exposed timbers, the conversion has been carried out to the highest possible standard including solid oak floors upstairs, and underfloor heating throughout. The open plan living area has French doors out onto a small balcony, overlooking the garden area and woods. A magnificent conversion, warm and welcoming, ideal for any time of the year. Note: This cottage is next to Refs. 916 and 9985, and a short distance from Ref. 10255, together they sleep 22.

Mid way between the Yorkshire Dales and the Lake District and in the heart of the Lune Valley, the attractive market town of Kirkby Lonsdale makes an excellent spot for a family vacation. Mentioned in the Domesday Book of 1086, this lovely town holds a 13th Century market charter, a tradition that still continues every Thursday. Market day is an ideal opportunity for visitors to explore the variety of distinctive shops in the town or the many 17th and 18th Century buildings that can be seen throughout the settlement. As a favourite haunt of the artist Turner, the Lune Valley is home to the medieval ‘Devil's Bridge', which can still be seen spanning the river. Throughout the area there are many quiet country lanes which are ideal for exploring by car, bike, or even on horseback, and the surrounding countryside provides great facilities for tennis, riding, fishing and a variety of riverside and country walks.

Clean and tidy upon arrival and the underfloor heating and showers we lovely. Only 2 things I would suggest is maybe a bit of a heads up for the drive from Kirkby Lonsdale to the cottage. It's a proper single track road and needs to be navigated with care. And maybe consider a visitors book so that people can leave feedback and suggestions for local places to visit etc. Have found that invaluable in other properties. Other than that a fantastic week was had. Thank you

Bathrooms clean. Surrounding area lovely and peaceful, neighbouring properties very quiet. I would like to point out though that the what3words provided on the Sykes listing is incorrect, it takes you to a property further up the road. If it hadn’t been for the owners precise directions we wouldn’t have noticed this. This is the correct what3words for the property ///mistress.infringe.tweaked

The owners were very nice and shared information about the buildings. The weather was not the best but we did get out and about and enjoyed ourselves and the log burner was very welcome.
