Piggery Place is a well-received cottage in the Peak District, praised for its cleanliness, comfort, and suitability for guests with limited mobility. The working farm setting offers a unique experience, though some guests noted road noise and farm smells. The host, Sue, is commended for her warmth and responsiveness.
The majority of guests found the cottage to be spotlessly clean, with only one mention of a carpet needing a steam clean. The high level of cleanliness is consistently noted across reviews.
The location is appreciated for its proximity to local attractions and access to the Peak District. However, some guests mentioned road noise and a lack of scenic views from certain windows, which slightly impacted the overall satisfaction with the location.
Guests frequently describe the cottage as comfortable, cosy, and warm, with special mention of comfortable beds and a homely feel. The comfort of guests with limited mobility is particularly highlighted.
Facilities are generally well-regarded, especially for disabled guests. Criticisms include the absence of a dryer and some guests missing an information folder. The farm setting with animals was a bonus for many, though some found the farm noises and smells less appealing.
While the host is praised for her responsiveness and hospitality, there is no consistent mention of gifts or special touches for guests across the reviews. Therefore, it is not possible to score thoughtfulness based on the provided information.
This lovely barn conversion rests on the owner's farm in the hamlet of Newhaven, near the village of Hartington; home to old curiosity shops, traditional pubs and a splendid market square. Ideal for Chatsworth House. Suited for couples or a small family, Piggery Place is a delightful cottage to return to, comprising a comfortable open-plan living area, divided between a lounge, well-equipped kitchen, and a dining area for four people. Sit back with your favourite DVD on play, enjoying the warmth of the woodburning stove. A collection of bedrooms rest beyond, so you can snuggle up after a long day, either in the double or twin room, each carrying a home away from home feel, with wardrobes, and a neutral overtone. A wet room completes the interior, providing adapted facilities for those less mobile guests. Note: This property can be booked with Ref. 996810, together they can sleep up to six people.
The former Hartington railway station, about a mile and half from the village itself, is now a picnic area and the converted track is known as the Tissington Trail, popular with both walkers and cyclists. Hartington is also a good starting point for walking along Beresford Dale, a beautiful place with its curiously formed cliffs and rocks.

The cottage is really nice & cosy. good sized bedrooms, wet room and comfy Living room/Kitchen/Diner. The photos don't do the cottage justice, it's so lovely. Our two kids really appreciated the tour of the farm by Sue. Our eldest was extremely inquisitive and Sue was able to answer his complex questions! He enjoyed it that much he now wants to become a dairy farmer before becoming a game designer!! Location wise it is perfect, within an hours drive you can easily get to various places like Chatsworth, Hardwick Hall, Matlock, Sudbury etc. Although the cottage is on a working farm by a main road it was really peaceful throughout the day. Lovely holiday was had by all!
