The Old Telephone Exchange is a stunning holiday home located in the picturesque old mill town village of Marsden West Yorkshire. Bordering with Lancashire and adjacent to the Peak District, it is set within the outstanding Southern Pennines and surrounded by the beautiful Marsden Moors.

We have access to many hiking and walking routes (for all abilities) including Britain’s oldest long-distance footpath, the 429km Pennine Way. The Heritage Way and The Stanza Stones Poetry Trail are amongst many other fantastic trails connecting this area with others beyond.

You can enjoy easy walking distance to a varied selection of local amenities and everything you may need including shops and an eclectic mix of bars, pubs, restaurants and cafes, each unique and waiting to welcome you. Marsden also has a pretty Victorian park, cricket ground, golf course, yoga studio, gym, beauty and hair salons.

The nearby canal adds to the charm of the village and provides an easy walk/cycle/run to the neighbouring village of Slaithwaite with places to stop along the way. Heading in the opposite direction, by foot or water taxi you will reach Tunnel End. Britain’s longest, deepest and highest canal tunnel. There is a train station providing close proximity to bustling cities like Manchester, Leeds, Huddersfield and beyond. A short car/taxi/bus ride will take you into the neighbouring villages of Meltham, Holmfirth, Uppermill and Saddleworth.

A stunning picturesque village in the Colne Valley in West Yorkshire. Marsden is a former mill village dominated by charming stone buildings, fantastic scenery and a beautiful canal home to the only professional theatre company to tour by Narrowboat. Marsden offers awards winning restaurants, ancient pubs and a National Trust owned Marsden Moor, a village that has appeared in the TV shows 'Last of the Summer Wine' and 'The League of Gentleman'. The village hosts many festivals and events throughout the year including the Marsden Jazz Festival held every October. Marsden is popular among walkers and was awarded Walkers are Welcome status in 2010. The village is just a short drive away from the Peak District National Park and is well worth a visit for you outdoors people. Huddersfield is a short drive away, a beautiful city as well as Manchester within driving distance which offers a different and more busy trip, ideal for shopping.

    There is sufficient shared space to not be on top of each other and the bedrooms and bathrooms were comfortable and clean. Kitchen had all the necessary pots and pans although could maybe do with a frying pan as I like fried egg for breakfast..
