Castle Cottage in Kent receives high praise for its cleanliness, charming village location, and thoughtful touches like welcome cakes and pet-friendly amenities. While some guests found the sofas and beds less comfortable and the cottage temperature occasionally cold, the overall experience is seen as cosy and well-equipped for a pleasant stay.
Guests consistently describe the cottage as very clean and immaculate, indicating a high standard of cleanliness throughout the property.
The cottage's location in a friendly village with proximity to walks, historical sites, and local amenities is highly appreciated by guests, contributing to a positive experience.
While many guests found the cottage cosy and the beds comfortable, there are several mentions of uncomfortable sofas and a general feeling of the property being cold, which affects the comfort score.
The cottage is well-regarded for its facilities, but some guests noted the absence of certain kitchen items and issues with the TV brightness and heating control, suggesting room for improvement in maintenance and equipment.
The owner's thoughtful gestures, such as providing shampoo, shower gel, and treats for pets, are well-received. However, as these extras are not guaranteed for every stay, guests should be aware that such amenities are a bonus.
Nestled on the edge of the coastal town of Hythe in the village of Saltwood is Castle Cottage. This dog-friendly holiday home benefits from a welcoming interior, two well-appointed bedrooms, and rear and front garden. This fabulous location offers a wealth of wonders hidden in the county of Kent; a wonderful choice for couples, friends and families looking to explore all Kent has to offer. Step straight into the sitting room, where you can unwind on the plush sofas in front of the Smart TV while watching on as the designated chef of the group rustles up a tasty meal in the fully-equipped kitchen. Take advantage of the rear garden where you can enjoy pre-dinner drinks or savour the last of the day’s sunshine with a glass of wine. Local amenities include a village store, and The Castle Hotel pub which serves delicious food; a brilliant option for the nights when you need a break from the kitchen. Outdoor enthusiasts will also be in their element, thanks to the nearby Brockhill Country Park where you can explore the meadow and the lake, with chances to spot local wildlife. Keen ramblers can also walk the impressive Royal Military Canal, an historic monument, which spans 28 miles to Rye, in Sussex. Venture to the nearby town of Folkestone where you can immerse yourself in the area’s history at Folkestone Museum or explore Folkestone Harbour where you can experience a unique dining experience encompassing sea views at Lighthouse Champagne Bar; perfect for couples! For the younger members of the group hop aboard the Romney Hythe and Dymchurch Light Railway; or visit the Wingham Wildlife Park. Make unforgettable memories at Castle Cottage!
One of the original Cinque Ports, Hythe was chosen by Edward the Confesssor to protect the English coast from invasion in exchange for a cut of the legal fees. As a natural consequence, this ushered in a period of unprecedented prosperity for these settlements, the fruits of which are still visible to this day in Hythe and other towns of similar size. The Royal Military Canal cuts straight through the heart of town. During the Napoleonic period, this was dug to protect against an invasion from France. The grassy banks of this picturesque waterway have become increasingly popular as a place to picnic, relax, and enjoy a break from work. Rent a rowboat and explore the canal and the surrounding area of Kent at your own pace. The beach is only a five-minute walk from the centre of town. Ideal for summer picnics and safe swimming, this expansive promenade looks out over a long stretch of beach and across the English Channel to France. Golf, tennis, riding, bowls, squash, boating, windsurfing, freshwater, and sea angling are just some of the activities available to visitors in Hythe. West of town is Romney Marsh, which can be explored on foot, by car, by bike, or by taking a ride on the tiniest public railway in the world. Visit the nature reserve, the lighthouse, and maybe even catch a glimpse of some painters and artists at work on Dungeness, which is accessible via the Romney, Hythe, and Dymchurch Light Railway, which has its eastern terminus in Hythe.

The cottage had everything we needed for a comfortable stay and that included the dog. Owners have thought of everything to make everyone happy. We will return. Thank you

The cottage is very clean and comfortable, even for our dog! We were left milk and buns, as well as a welcome card. The coffee pods were generous and helpful too. Everything was supplied for our arrival. Just maybe it would have been good to know the coffee machine needs to be watched, so it doesn't overflow. The sofas could have been larger, but I'm knit picking. It is a lovely little cottage, we hope to book again, as we have local family. I thoroughly recommend Castle Cottage.
